Oh absolute rubbish!!!Striker wrote:Yep! They just went on the name.
I'm sorry but no sports club invests millions in a player only on reputation, especially when it was from 2 seasons prior. Chronic injury alone is enough reason to do due diligence!Striker wrote:Prove they did the proper investigating then!
Or you're wrong and they realise a player can put back weight in months. It would be far easier to put back weight than build real endurance. He still didnt have it after 18monthsStriker wrote:Talk to them then, because it's obvious they didn't do due diligence.

Obviously. But like any decent club they will investigate his medical history including injuries and ongoing condition. To suggest otherwise is folly. Many international sporting clubs demand MRI scans of knees, ankles, hips etc to determine the long term value of a player.King-Eliagh wrote:What could an RU team research on Izzy's form for Union in the past two years Xman?
There is none!

Izzy is returning in his prime years. Thorpe returned at 28, hardly the prime years of a swimmer. Izzy spent 2 years building his endurance and learning/developing new skills. Thorpe spent years of retirement eating doughnuts and sitting on his arse.King-Eliagh wrote:Anyone with half a brain knows that if you take two years out of a sport at the professional level, you're gunna have a hard road back. Even though he had more time off Ian thorpe had good "knees, ankles and hips"...but he couldnt get near his former self. Izzy might be ok in 2 years time cause he's still young...but he might not. In union though almost any first grade RL player is an instant international, such is the amazing athleticism of these men...but on second thoughts, Izzy's been playing marngrook...so he could well struggle at yawnion too now.
The NRL did the right thing. They would have been the laughing stock next season and possible for a long time to come for paying a mentally and physically diminished athlete.

Sure, he changed his body shape to suite a sport that requires athleticism, pace and endurance. He can change it back again over a number of months.King-Eliagh wrote:Of course they're different Xman but I could cite numerous sporting folk who've left their sport and not achieved as well on return. As for your "building his endurance"...Power and strength are just as if not more important than endurance in RL. And Izzy woulda lost a lot of that stuff.
Simpletons just dont seem to realise that body transformation takes a lot out of a person. It's hard to do. And in top level pro sport it's very very hard to do and continue to be successful. Take my current sport, boxing as an example. Anyone who moves around the weight divisions finds it extremely difficult to return to their preferred weight and be successful. Changing your body takes a lot out of a bloke whether you're losing it or putting it on and Izzy will have done both if he's to be any sorta player on a RL field. And lets not forget the mental side of things. The blokes just taken two years out to play a sport in which he did not enjoy and failed at. He may say its "been a great experience" for the media but deep down he knows he's been a media puppet for the AFL, and an opponent which opposing players laughed at in the dressing sheds. What a beaut organisation the AFL is.
