So most of the people entering the gabba (members) are adult non concession (75%) so new adults would be buying the $37 dollar or $25 dollar tickets at the least, if there was 10000 more people comming then on average I would say that 7500 would be spending roughly $30 per person. 1500 kids would be spending about $9 a ticket and about 1000 concession would be spending an average of $22 dollars a ticket. Thats an average price of $26 dollars a ticket, if that trend continues. When the Lions average 30000 again they will probabaly have an extra 3 million dollars in revenue.

Have to agree to disagree on this one. I actually think the average seat would cost about $25 (averaging adults and kids), but I thought I would go with the cheaper end to stop any fighting. Even if we went with your $15 pricing. The average person would probabaly spend $10+ on food per match ($5 profit) and $25 dollars a year on merchandise ($20 profit). which would make up $550000+ for food and $200000 on caps/gurneys/scarfs/footy records etc bought at the games.

Just jumped on to the Lions website and found it very interesting. Of the offerings for memberships 16 of the 45 packages average out to be $15 or less/game. 29 of the 45 average out to be be $23 or less/game . My numbers do not include things like the value of the merchandise that they hand out to member including gift shop vouchers etc or the fact that RACQ member (which alot of Qld people are in) gives a further 10% discount etc. I did a quick calculation based upon estimates of people that would be on all memberships and came up with a average of about $17.60/ticket sold. Given the other outlays and the potential discounts etc I am thinking the average of $15/game would have to be pretty close to the mark. Especially given AFL like to buy their products from slave labour.

An Example of what I used to calculate my number is below: The top family membership is just under half /game when compared to the Broncos which is 2390, note that is for 13 games and works out to be $45.09/game.

The cheapest im seeing for one adult General admin is $180 dollars for 11 games so thats $16 a game if you go to all the games miss a few games and it cost you $20 a game. But most people I know like to reserve a seat which is minimum $290 for 11 games. So if you miss a few games you are paying almost $35 a game. I use to be a Collingwood legend member before the wife and kids made it hard for me to go to all the games. Collingwood Legends membership cost I beleive around $900 a year (get a guaranteed GF ticket that you still have to pay for). So that would be about $80 a game.
EDIT: I just checked out the Lions equiv it is $1050 for 11 games. If they got an extra 10000 people going to the games probabaly 500-1000 people would get or upgrade to this package. That alone would be worth about half a million to one million dollars.

oh I see you have gone with the family membership and assumed that the family will always bring 2 adullts and 2 kids. This isnt really the case with only 15% of members from Brisbane being kids below 18 (or 15 not sure). No that is wrong, I didn't say the average was $14.32. Good point though Pieman, even I was surprise how little the junior following was of the Lions after reading though your attachment. I am not sure you got the point of my example though, note I said the average I estimated was 17.60. Not the 14.32 in the example above, yep this would bring it down, but that is only 1000 kids there in those prices. As the other 1000 are adults prices. I did my home work and may have got a few things wrong, but I put every membership type into a spreadsheet and worked out the average cost based upon the above logic. Here is another one, which bumps the average up. And without seeing your numbers in each category I wasn't to far from the mark anyway with around 12000 Adults, 4000 Kids and 4000 Concession mixed between all the memberships to formulate my average of 17.60.

Good job on the homework. im not sure what it all means because I got the 17.60 refenence but I didnt see any figures attached (sorry if I jumped on your data you presented). As to reducing it to $15 I believe that there wouldnt really be much outlay to tickets and packages. Most of it would be put together by volunteers and carried by them and given out at the first few games the only real money spent would be for a letter or a phone call to confirm and most of that is done on line now days. I liked your spreadsheet it showed truely how cheap you can get into games with a family of 4 or more. I believe now that it might be impossible to realy estimate an exact average price. Not everyone at the game would be a member and to buy a ticket on the day would be a bit more expensive as well. Also it would be hard to estimate the number of each type of memebers. If you look at the Gabba picture on the Lions website only a small amount of space is taken up by general attendence.

You are right that not attending the game as such doesnt inflate the price because you still for example pay $180 dollars for the 11 games, However if you had on average 1000 more members at games on average then in fact you probabaly have 1100-1200 people who have bought membership because on average every member misses a few games (there is always a family birthday/wedding/get together/business trips ect on during a game time). So for the club having 1000 members turn up to the game still makes the same amount of money has having 1100-1200 people turn up to the game because that is the true number who have bought membership. As for the merchandise ($15 voucher + discount) this doesnt really cost them much money and may in fact like any good sale make the club more money because you get them in the shop or truck parked outside the game and they end up buying more.
Overall there an been a lot of speculation from both of us however here is another one for the road using figures closer to what the AFL put out.

So you are right not to much difference with an extra $1.20 per ticket. However if 1000 members turn up to the game then there are between 100-200 who didnt. So that would add an extra $40000-80000 to the Lions that you cant really see but has been payed. Although it isnt actually making the ticket prices more expensive as you pointed out it is however extra money the lions would get into their bank account. It is like the Lions are charging on average between $39.45 to $43 for Premium tickets due to the missing people (hopefully that makes sense sorry if it didnt). So an extra $3.40-7.20 per match on these tickets.
Oh another point is that some people in melbourne will buy a membership as a donation to the Lions because of the Fitzroy connection. So they are basically donating money to the Lions.

Its a well known fact that Paddle Pop Wions fans of today are mainly old retired ex pat Vics & their siblings & part of the moth ball brigade
who migrated to SE Qld up to 30 years ago. All of the originals are now retired & their kids .. all adults now too.. they are a very old crowd at the Wions.
No kids .. or very few these days.
the older sthn immigrants held onto their facination for singlets & fumbling ... the next generation a bit less .... the next a bit less again as far superior alternatives were all around them in the sunshine state.
