Re: AFL V NRL Financial positioning
The AFL have have using the revenue argument for years as some sort of 'badge of honor'. 12 months ago the AFL 's yearly revenue was 330m, the NRL's 170m But with the new TV deal, that figure has jumped to 280m and I'm sure will see some sort of increase from Internet, marketing, radio, sponsorship etc. So the NRL has virtually caught up overnight
Another thing they seem to turn a blind eye to is that revenue matters little if you've got more going out than coming in each year.. They've been losing millions these past years, Making a profit in only 1 of the past 5 years. Last years $24 million dollar loss was the biggest yet - how much longer can Andrew D continue to put a positive spin on these nursery rhymes and fairy tales before one of these brainwashed mushrooms comes of trance like state and see's the light of day???

show us evidence theyve lost money 4 of the last 5 years. How many times does it need to be said? They had a decade of profits and saved money specifically for expansion. The majority of the revenue shortcomings in the last 2 years were for the establishment of 2 new teams, including their stadiums.pussycat wrote:The AFL have have using the revenue argument for years as some sort of 'badge of honor'. 12 months ago the AFL 's yearly revenue was 330m, the NRL's 170m But with the new TV deal, that figure has jumped to 280m and I'm sure will see some sort of increase from Internet, marketing, radio, sponsorship etc. So the NRL has virtually caught up overnight

As far as revenue goes, more is always better than less. The AFL can cut expenditure. Thats far easier than the NRL coming up with new revenue streams.

thats the same source, just an increase. Its locked in for another 5 years. It still leaves the nRL miles behind the AFL in terms of revenue. As I said, the AFL can cut costs. How are the NRL going to increase revenue given they are miles behind even with their new TV deal?Raiderdave wrote:we have a new stream .... an extra 170m a year from TV for the next 5 years ..& we got it without raising a sweatXman wrote:. Our revenue streams are pretty much on par nowadays.
More revenue is not always better either, just ask Alan Bond

The 2011 AFL annual report included revenue from the last TV rights. If your comparing the NRLs future yearly earnings to the AAFLs then dont use last years data

I thought I would just point out that the NRL has yet to recieve their first payment from their new TV deal. While the AFL is one year into their deal. Currently the AFL V NRL (no clubs) revenue is highly in favour of the AFL. The 2012 annual reports (if the NRL print theirs) will show this.

Re: AFL V NRL Financial positioning
The revenue figures(NRL/170m , AFL/330m) were pointed out prior to the NRL's TV contract. Formerly about $90m per year , now 200m per year . An increase of 110m. Meaning the NRL's yearly revenue has jumped from $170m to $280m .Still 50m a year short of the AFL, but that's just one area. It stands to reason that the NRL will also see increases in other areas such as radio, I.T., naming rights etc. Meaning the NRL have similar revenue and do not run at a loss each year.Xman wrote:thats the same source, just an increase. I think you will find they received there first payment. And as pointed out in the news, with there new restructuring they are now Australia's wealthiest TV company.piesman2011 wrote:I thought I would just point out that the NRL has yet to recieve their first payment from their new TV deal. AFL clubs , half of them , are loss makers, relying on the AFL for handouts - A further burden of an organisation soon to be in receivership.
NRL clubs are not established to make money . They are contracted to the NRL but other than an annual grant have no real connection. These clubs have rich powerful backers - millionares , league's clubs and there results wont show up oln the NRL's annual profit and loss report.

10 clubs made a profit last year
Given the AFL earn 150M a year more than the NRL they have the funds to support a 8 clubs that may make a 2M loss or more.
