the NRL has set a goal of a 20K average by 2017 as part of their strategic plan .. they need another 3500 a game to get to this figure.
they will achieve this target .... I have seen the plan to get to this figure
they won't fail ...
Care to share this fantasy plan of the NRL?

Another 3,500 per game is all that's needed eh? As if that is ever likely to be achieved.
fixed schedule
doubling the membership of the NRL by 2017
twice the numb of games between Sydney's bigger clubs at ANZ & the SFS instead of the smaller suburban grounds

yep ... ours will go up by 3500 a game over the next 5 years
the VFL's
will drop by another 3500 a game

nothing surer
So the NRL are going to increase crowds by 20% in 4 years when theyve actually dropped since 2006?

do tell.....

It's all about the recent and therefore most valid data Xman. Raiders going off the trends of recent years and may seem optimistic in predicting NRL and AFL crowds will continue in this manner. However he backs this up with relevant facts such as the NRL's massive membership promo along with their massive new tv deal and the AFLs struggling, lopsided competition with many teams really not competing and the loss of integrity the AFL is suffering due to its inability to take action against cheating teams. Massive points which you've done nothing to refute...cause you cant

I tend to believe a bloke who puts up facts and figures to bolster his trend argument rather than one who, as in this thread, who prematurely ejaculates over a has been actor giving up his ownership of a club. Xman, I've never seen you in worse shape mate...your panicking and clutching as though you're on a sinking ship...

Lions cop $2.5 million financial loss
20:36 AEST Wed Nov 21 2012

The Brisbane Lions have felt the brunt of a huge net operating loss of more than $2.5 million over the past 12 months.

It's the fifth straight year the Lions have recorded a loss and it's their third seven-figure blow in a row, following $1.8m in 2011 and another $2.5m in 2010.

The AFL club on Wednesday announced their $2,513,262 net loss for the 2012 financial year (ending October 31) was largely due to its major long-term investment, the Lions@Springwood entertainment venue.

In a letter to members, Lions chairman Angus Johnson said Brisbane had "aggressively" repaid debt relating to Lions@Springwood in the first year of a five-year strategic plan.

Johnson said the strategic plan was aimed at delivering long-term sustainable earnings and on-field success.

"While we are still some way from achieving our aim, we have taken a number of significant steps towards this, including improvement in on-field performance, which resulted in the team increasing its wins from four in 2011 to 10 in 2012," he said.

"The continued development of such a young list is critical to our club's progress - and to the growth of the AFL in Queensland."

Johnson labelled LIONS@springwood "a financial success story" for the club after it passed the 100,000-member mark.

So the fact the NRLs crowds are less than 2005 isnt a fact?

What about the fact that despite you claiming they will continue to grow because of recent trends the truth is theyve only risen 2% in 3 years. In the last 2 years theyve only risen 0.1%. How the hell are they going to grow 20% in 4?

Yes they have a membership focus but that doesn't mean they will get substantial growth.

Yes the AFL crowd averages have dropped, but as I have explained, they have more than doubled the number of games played in expansion states to around 60, or around 30% of their season. Given their original very high crowd average how was that ever going to be maintained?? As if 2 new expansion states were going to average 36k, especially when they play 1 to 2 local derbies only.

Add to that renovations to 2 stadiums, sellout crowds every week in Perth, and live TV coverage of every game for the first time, and the crowds were destined to fall.

But these changes have occurred now. The crowds will stabilise and begin to grow again when Geelong and Sydneys stadiums are finished and Adelaide and the power move to the renovated Adelaide oval.

But the AFLs crowds will not return to an average of 36k (one of the best averages in world sport) for many years. 60 matches a year in NSW, QLD and Tasmania will ensure that.

Seems to me like they know exactly what theyre doing. They are setting themselves up for the future by establishing a sustainable business model. Paying the debt down is a smart move. It sound like their business ventures are reaping rewards to.

Their total football budget was 30m (excluding social club earnings), which is almost 3 times the raiders!
