Reflections on Jetta's "super goal"

For now though, that run of jettas? Happens week in week out in the nrl and it was an absolutely exhilirating moment for all the fans watching the game, across the country...but yeah, week in week out in the NRL

Jettas goal was one of a variety of ways t score a goal in the AFL. The NRL seems very 1 dimensional in comparison

It wasnt a goal.He ran 90 meters and had three bounces.If the rules had of been enforced it would have been twice as hard to achieve.He would have had to bounce it 5 times and would have been caught.Compare that to a couple of buddies this year and it aint in the same ball park.

the complex part about these running goals is that while the player bounces the ball they run about 5 or more steps. Times this by 3 bounces and that could be up to 30 metres of running while the ball isnt actually in the players hand. If you split the left over 60 mtres in to 4 lots, because they were seperated by 3 bounces, thats about 15mtres per length.

you cant expect a play running at approx35km an hour to bounce a ball every 15 metres unless you want to slow that player, and the running aspect of the game down. He would need to be bouncing the ball twice every five seconds. I dont think this is what we want.

The fact remains the same. Everyone loves Jetta when he gets out in the open and puts the afterburners on. This happens not so often. In RL its week in week out, game in game out. The players are faster, stronger and more agile. You should try it sometime Xman.

The AFL umpiring department has already said the decision was wrong.NO GOAL.If the rules had been enforced he might have been ran down.And that is exactly what I want to see.I dont want to see some bloke pick it up and just run.I may as well watch the league.I think they found it more exciting in Sydney than they did in Melbourne

Imagine in our game if a player could simply fail outright at evading a tackle but still get the ball back, again and again. This is greatness?

I thought the goal was faily average to tell you the truth. When you are dead in front shooting for goal it is nothing special even if you ran 100 metres to get there. The better goals are the ones achieved while weaving through traffic selling candy on the way through. Maybe with a left foot checkside from the boundry to finish it off.

Again such a simple exercise gets totally distorted.
Firstly it was a great run. Exhilarating.
And it resulted in a goal much like his run in the GF.
Why are people so logically challenged.
If he was 90m out and had three bounces that puts him 60m down nthe track and he kicked from 20m.
Yes,bouncing the ball is meant to slow the player down so it become more difficult.
We don't want the game to be sprinting competition but we do love the occassional burst of speed.
Just like in rl the fans love the occassional kick and marking contest.

If this running caper is so easy in Australian Football- why haven't we seen Mike Pyke replicate his famous run?
