Reflections on Jetta's "super goal"

Post by King-Eliagh »

Howdy folks,

Personally I thought Jetta's running 100 odd metre goal against collingwood was superb to watch, and so did the 57k at the match, all the media and everyone else I've discussed it with. Perhaps the goal of the year many have touted. And unfortunately there's been controversy over how many times he bounced the ball, with clear evidence it wasnt once every 15metres. To that I say the rules need to be flexible. If you're running quick like him you'd need to be bouncing the ball every four or five steps and every 2 seconds to ensure you kept within the rules. So the umps made the right no call.

But back to the excitement of the crowd and AFL fans the country over. It was exhilirating yes? Well, now perhaps you know what NRL fans get week in week out. Men who are faster and stronger than JEtta, breaking into open spaces, unable to be caught and often with a fullback to either skillfully evade, or not. Yes RL gets that excitement and more each and every game, often on numerous occasions within the one match. I'm sure the AFL fans in here could not say anything more than "yes, RL must be 'exhilirating'"...unless that is they found jettas run boring.

Of course there's other things enjoyable about marngrook but the excitement factor of Jetta should be something to remind us all just how great RL is.

Week in week out hey? How many times a round would a full ground length try happen? As for Jetta, it wasnt even close to goal of the year. There have been others who have done something similar this year including Stu Crameri for Essendon. Remember its not like the NRL because the player with the ball must slow slightly to bounce the ball. In RL its just down to a running race.

Jetta's goal wasnt a full ground length effort. About half the pitch from what i saw. In RL this happens week in week out, involving faster stronger athletes, such is the exciting nature of the sport. The bouncing of the ball imo is a bit of a lamo rule, slowing the sport down, making it less exciting. RL players are required to have superb evasive skills at speed and fans see this in action week in week out.

Xman did you find Jettas goal exciting?

Jettas goal was about 90-100mtrs, the length of a RL pitch no? :-k

In RL it may happen, what, 3-4 times for an entire round at most?

Bouncing the ball makes carrying the ball long distances riskier. But to suggest it makes the game slower is ridiculous. The ball movement in ARs is infinitely faster than RL. More skill, better had-eye co-ordination, better sport all round, hence the better crowds and ratings.

So if bouncing the ball doesnt slow the game down... :? does it speed it up then?

Xman in fine form again. =D>

In regards to players getting out in the open it happens each and every game, week in week out. Exhilirating stuff and didnt the AFL world love it when it happened last week. Again, week in week out in RL

It slows the ball carrier encouraging them to dispose of the ball. But this doesnt slow the play, just the carrier, because the ball travels faster through linking disposals than someone running.

Use you brain for once KE!

Yes and I'm sure the crowd would have preferred your usual 3 passes and then goal to jettas exhilirating run. the AFL world lapped it up, as they would RL if they opened their minds :thumbleft:

the crowd enjoyed a different type of goal to the norm. but to suggest that is a better goal than others is ridiculous. Crameri's was as good and I bet neither win the goal of the year.

Not because of the skill etc, but because it was a final.

It wasnt better than Stu Crameri, In fact I think Stu's was bettergiven he's a KPI, not a running forward.

Any goals like that in the NRL? :-k

What about Cyril Rioli's effort?

http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=nIVP6ily ... IVP6ilyDvY

Give me that every day of the week compared to Jetta's

Get your youtube links right Xman. Oh and in case you forgot, in the NRL? The equivalent of a goal is a try. When you fix the youtube up I'll see the kicks and let you know whether similar kicks happen in the nrl and how often.

For now though, that run of jettas? Happens week in week out in the nrl and it was an absolutely exhilirating moment for all the fans watching the game, across the country...but yeah, week in week out in the NRL

Jettas goal was one of a variety of ways t score a goal in the AFL. The NRL seems very 1 dimensional in comparison #-o

It wasnt a goal.He ran 90 meters and had three bounces. If the rules had of been enforced it would have been twice as hard to achieve. He would have had to bounce it 5 times and would have been caught.Compare that to a couple of buddies this year and it aint in the same ball park.
