No it doesnt because every other comp in the world is most likely far less lopsided than the AFL was this season. You know exactly what im talking about Helen, your weasling isnt getting you far.
BS!

Every comp in the world would have mid range teams that lose to the top teams and beat the bottom teams. According to you this labels them a basketcase.

Id say it labels YOU a basket case!

Hahaha nice try Helen. You know full well I'm referring to basket cases as teams who get walloped and often. The for and against percentages in the AFL this season tell a story like no other in living history. It was much worse than ur usual middle tier and lower tier as Helen has incorrectly described it. I've correctly asserted that this season was severely lopsided with 6 -7 teams copping 10 goal plus blowouts on many occasions.

Xman aka Helen Lovejoy has no idea what we're talking about here. Heheh

The lions lost 4 games by 10 goals or more, the same number as essendon.

Try again?

They had 4 smashings by 10 goals or more. And then another four beltings by 7 goals or more. Almost all their wins were against other basketcases. But yes, as I said, the lions while they were official basketcases this season, they were up there **** the best of the basketcases with port adelaide and the westernbulldogs.

TLPG a few weeks/pages back stated that there were two seasons he knew of that were more lopsided than this season. He's been quiet ever since. Why? because those two seasons were not more lopsided than this one. The percentages differential between the 6 basketcases and the rest f the league is quite shocking. THe worst of all times I believe.

Personally I really think the AFL should consider a first division including 10 - 11 sides, and throw their money into getting a tassie and darwin side in and perhaps a third wa side. This would be fantastic and they could have the top two sides like the lions and western bulldogs going up a division to replace the bottom two in the AFL, i.e. richmond and essendon, or perhaps carlton were even more woeful than richmond... But yeah you get the idea. This would resolve the most lopsided competition, possibly in all the history of professional sports...worldwide. :-k

And as an added bonus then the AFL really could call themselves a national comp, rather than what is now basically a southern Australian league vis a vis the NRL which is an Eastern Australian League...I know which part of the country I'd prefer to be dominating

Massive difference in the comps. The AFL again got double the crowds, far more viewers on TV, and over double the revenue.

I think the tv viewers went to the NRL once again Xman.

In any case we're discussing the lopsidedness of the comp this season

What evidence have you got for that statement KE? You only have to look at the ratings on this site, or the Finals ratings, to see the AFL have dominated this year.

Lopsided comp or not, the proof is in the popularity and the AFL continues to be the number 1 sport in Australia by quite some distance.

Are you trying to change the topic here Helen?

I got one word for you on your off topic question. Regionals...millions upon millions of em lappin up there league all over nsw and qld, the 1st and third most populous states. Ok sorry there was more than one word there but one has to gloat about these things

What a shocking year though in the AFL eh? The lopsided games just continued and continued, on and on throughout the season. Atwo tiered system as i described would make this game almost as popular as the NRL in my opinion. :D

Even with regionals added the NRL have lost every final to the AFL and by a huge margin. Plus this has occured during the normal season the AFL have more matches on FTA and Fox. It aint close this year KE. The TV war is over.

Yes the AFLs season was more uneven at the lower end than previous years, but expansion was the obvious cause. The mid to upper levels more more even than previous years. Once these lower teams develop the comp will be flying and the NRL will sink into insignificance.

BS, again

in 1992 the NRL averaged 11.7k per game and the AFL 26k, so just over double.

Since then the NRL have increased 5k average and so have the AFL, despite increasing the interstate games by 4 times. =D>

The NRL hasnt increased TV audience at all wwhile the AFL have increased by 30%. Keep your "double counting" crackpot theory to yourself.

The AFL spends their riches on better stadiums, better facilities, expansion and grass roots development. We've got the cash and we're spending it, while the NRL struggles to keep clubs afloat.

Bigger, richer, better

An absolute shocking percentage of uncompetitive blowouts this season. The two new clubs the GC and GWS were hardly to blame for this shocking number of no contest matches. Brisbane, Port Adelaide, Melbourne and the WEstern Bulldogs were all absolute shamejobs. [-X

A competition in dire straits. Fingers and toes crossed for next season.

Brisbane also won 10 games and showed significant improvement towards the end of the year. The Giants and Suns are also improving and will be much better in the next few years once their new players get 50 games under their belts. The other 3 are genuine bottom 3 teams and will need the salary cap and draft to rise.

However the advent of free agency will play a significant role in evening up the comp and has certainly been introduced at the right time.
