Expansion overseas is one of the reasons why footy is strong, and thugby is weak.

The AFL have 18 teams to the NRL's 16 right? Two of the AFLs comp require ridiculous amounts of support. Team for team the NRL deal is way more lucrative. I just hope they're clever and build the grass roots with the bucketloads of extra cash the nrl has than the AFL. And i certainly hope they dont throw money at countries which have little chance of taking to the game. AFL in China anyone? I;ll never forget the site nsw put up in here referring to the AFL in china. It'd been subsumed by a chinese porn site    ohhhhohohohhooooo the irony.
hmmmm. The vast majority of the NRLs revenue is TV money so as a proportion of their total revenue you are probably correct. But this means without a decent TV deal theyre screwed. The AFL and their teams make massive money from attendances, membership, sponsorship and gate receipts so to suggest the NRLs deal is better per team may be correct, but in reality this highlights their weakness and is a serious negative for them. The AFL are are far better off overall.

Nice try at spin though KE. Almost as good as the NRL media saying they got a better deal because they get more money per minute!

How exactly is that better?

Interesting point Xman. But the tv deal is no worse to what we have right no right? I therefore cannot see how you mean they're screwed? They just have more money right?

You obviously havent read the TV rights thread on LU. Theyve moaned for years about how poor ch9 are and about how poor their FA coverage is. Eels and RD bragged all year that the coming deal would see them match a similar TV schedule to the AFL.

Im sorry but when the AAFL is far more accessible to people in NSW aand QQLD than RL is thats a terrible result for the NRL. Add to that the lesser NRL teams will get only a few FTA games per year. Add to that NRL fans in AFL states will get limited chances to see their teams.

How is this in any way a good deal? In todays time of instant results and live sport 1 live FTA game a week for 5 years is a massive disaster.

Like Xman said - lame.

Maybe things are different in the AFL world. I often go to watch my nephews play Rugby League and me and their father take them to games together. We are a close family who enjoy our sport together.

Wasn't personal it was an observation and genuine sympathy for you TLPG, you seem to be missing out on all that bonding and all that fun. Too bad, life I'm sure would be happier if you had that in your life. You always seem angry here.

So you admit that teenagers do things with their parents? If you make comments that I believe to be wrong I will challenge you very opportunity I get and I would expect the same from you and everyone else here in the FIGHT CLUB

There's a difference between simply challenging and being downright personally offensive - and intentionally!!

It's hilarious watching the throwball fans here try and spin this deal as a bonanza for their game. The whinging and whining about broadcasters will continue for another 5 years now that the status quo has been maintained. Truly embarrassing.

I wanted you to admit that you did things with your dad the same way kids do things with their dad now in 2012. It never stops kids will always do things they love with their parents be it watch sport, go fishing or whatever. What all that means is giving kids free membership will more than likely result in more adults attending games, not a bad thing I would have thought.

They won't. This is what you don't get. Nowadays parents are having to work weekends to pay for the children's school fees - especially in secondary schools. That wasn't happening when you or I were kids.
