You fool! Essendon were 4th and Stkilda outside the 8 before that game. The effect of a close comp means 1 loss has a huge impact on ladder positions.

More to the point eelofwest
The weekend results speaks for themselves:
- Cowboys now 5th after beat 1st place Storm
- 12th placed Knights convincing win over Manly, if knights lost they would 3rd last, Manly win, they would be equal 3rd
- 10th placed St G beat Sharks who now drop to 5th
- 6th place Rabbits beat 14th placed roosters but only in the last 2 mins and requiring two tries in 2 mins to win
- Close game between 8th placed tiger and second last Penrith
- Broncos by 2 against Warriors at home
- Only real run away, but the equal first side and form side of the comp, play last placed team, Parra in the game for nearly 3/4 of the game
- Two try win for Titans over Canberra in Canberra

Compare that to AFL round 16 results where 7 out of 9 games had a gap of more then 30 points and 5 of those where 50 or more points gap. 1 even by greater then 100 points.

Eel,
In the AFL the 9th placed Nth Melbourne are in some good form beating just about all before them over the last few weeks. The 7th place Cats could do anything and beat anyone with a little form. You could say that any of the top 9 at the moment could win the AFL flag as well. If you look at the NRL ladders the 9th placed warriors are 4 wins behind first place with the top 2 on the same points. If you look at the AFL ladder the 9th placed Nth Melbourne are 4 wins behind 1st place with the top 3 all on the same points. If anything the AFL ladder is closer together with the same amount of rounds of the season to go. However overall no real difference.

 if only the NRL was similar to the AFL comp eels. Then we'd have plenty more to celebrate this year. Actually if we had three deadbeat basketcase teams in our league i'd say parra would still be in with a chance at making the 8!

Stop comparing apples to oranges you idiots. If Parramatta went onto an AFL field, even the Campbelltown Monarchs would thrash them, let alone any of the sides you mentioned!

Needed to be said.
