Don't be fooled by the 46-point margin - the new kids of the league had finals contenders Adelaide in a sweat yesterday, writes Ashley Porter.
It was supposed to be another touch-up job; Adelaide having training drills at home against the much-maligned Giants.
But while the Crows won comfortably, by 46 points, there were 25 minutes of play in the second quarter that other clubs should observe - and will worry Crows coach Brenton Sanderson.
OK, nothing great in the overall AFL picture - and they lost by heaps - but it was the way GWS played in those stunning 25 minutes that suggests we may have to take them seriously after all. The efficiency rate was GWS 78 per cent, Adelaide 52. The Giants went from flooding to playing man on man and bustled the Crows into error. The tackling was magnificent - 26-16.
Significantly, Israel Folau was a key figure in these highlights, including his first AFL goal from a set shot 55 metres out.
His rugged rugby league-style tackle on Brodie Smith could be felt in the stands, and his well-timed mark at full pace with his arms extended was even more impressive.
