So you reckon that there 30-40% more people whatching on Friday night because the game has moved from the 8.30 timeslot to 7.30 live timeslot???
Yes.
Live TV is a big plus and would have brought many new viewers. Having the game finish by 10.30pm is a big plus and would result in an a much higher ratings average. Last year the second half of the game started at about 10pm. If it was one sided many people just call it a night. Now it's 9pm when the second half starts.
The other issue is Adelaide and Perth now have the option to watch live Friday night footy on Fox, or delayed by just over 1 hr on FTA. Compare this to last year when Perth would watch the game on 3 hrs delay when it was already finished.
These are huge points.
How else has the audience grown? Just because it's available on FTa and foxtel at the same time doesn't mean there will automatically be more viewers. Why would it?
The Perth market has been the biggest mover but, 30-40%???
If you look at the figures for last years qualy-semi finals, shown live and at a decent hour. Their now being outrated by this years Friday night audience.
I cant explain it. There must be a flaw somewhere - Vcr recorders, new technologies? Fox takes CH 7 feed so maybe there being counted twice.
Disagree. The finals last year outrated most of the friday nights this year. You must also consider that the Foxtel rating is a national rating. One way to approximately work out the ratings this year for metro only would be to subtract about 25% from the foxtel ratings.
Finals friday nights 2011 metro ratings
1.15 million
1.1 million
1.4 million
Friday night 2012 metro ratings and foxtel (national):
1 million round 1 (940K metro)
1.2 million round 3 (1.11 million metro)
1.05 million round 4 (980K metro)
1.05 million round 5 (980K metro)
1 million round 6 (940K metro)
750 K round 7 (700K metro )
1.2 round 8 (1.1 million metro)
950K round 9 (880K metro)
1.15 million round 10 (1.07 million metro)
950 K round 11 (880K metro)
So you can see that the only Friday night games that may have out rated a Friday night final was round 3 and round 8. The final that it outrated was not a good one either. The only good final last year out of those 3 were the Collingwood V Hawthron clash which rated 1.4 million metro. The other finals rated between 900-1000K and a few friday night games have beaten these games. However the finals from last year on average well and truely beat the friday night games from this year metro only.
