Shocking stuff piesman. When will the numbers rise to meet the population proportion??? Sportingwise is victoria a 'one trick pony'?

Like many sports, different states excel at different levels. Tennis and golf are two sports where Victoria perform well above average.King-Eliagh wrote:Shocking stuff piesman. When will the numbers rise to meet the population proportion??? Sportingwise is victoria a 'one trick pony'?
King-Eliagh: ...I believe [RL] is popular in all the other states and territories, bar tasmania.

That's great you vics are good at tennis and golf and marngrook. But the stats piesman are compiling are concerning, especially considering melbourne is rated as the sporting capital of the country. Big issues which need to be discussed. Keep the stats rolling in piesman, very interesting research.

Melbourne is obviously colder than northern states and therefore sports that involve water or fine weather are probably a higher priority in these states. It would be interesting to see participation rates for the winter Olympians.King-Eliagh wrote:That's great you vics are good at tennis and golf and marngrook. Sorry Xman, but no cigar there mate. I'd bet there's decent participation rates from the other colder states, and when we look at other well off countries like the netherlands and germany, which are much 'colder' than melbourne, we see olympic swimmers a plenty. Poor argument Xman.

Far more iron men would come from warmer northern states. Far more golfers come from Victoria who have the best courses.

I looked into the Gold medals won by people a year or so a go in the Winter Olympics and I found that (if I remember correctly)Xman wrote:Melbourne is obviously colder than northern states and therefore sports that involve water or fine weather are probably a higher priority in these states. 5 Gold medals total
1 from someone born in Canada
2 from Vic
2 from NSW (one bradbury)
This result is not really very statistically significant, because there is a total of 5 medals. But you could claim that Victorians have won 50% of the home grown gold medals.
