Broke NRL Clubs - there are many

Post by Beaussie »

Sydney clubs including Cronulla, Penrith and even premiers Manly are all struggling for funds.

The Sharks are still without a major sponsor and can't even afford to put on a chief executive.

This is of course without even including the financial basketcases that are the Titans and the Storm who posts losses totalling $8 million each and every year despite success on the field and leading the comp.

What a disaster the NRL is. God help them if their tv deal doesn't eventuate.

So you're saying these clubs aren't struggling financially?

Some of our clubs do do it a bit tough, and will untill the Tv deal comes through and the grant given to each clubs is increased.

But Dont forget, it wasnt that long ago Souths were stuggling. The club is now run by a hollywood movie star - millionaire. It was only last year that Newcastle were Stuggling, there now owned by one of the richest men in the country. Canberra and Cronulla are still waiting on there billionaire, but canberra recently sighned a sponsorship deal with the Second largest IT firm in the world. Cronulla now have a major sponsor.

Bottom line, none of our clubs are relying on handouts to get by and none of our clubs have administators in them!

Aren't 14-15 of your 16 clubs making losses each year? :-k

That would be around the mark. But thats the football club, there not a money making operation.

My club, for example has set up an organisation called the east group. Makes a large profit every year.

Interesting. The media report some NRL clubs can't even afford CEOs and have no major sponsors. The wealthiest NRL b
Club has a revenue of just over 20mil. The average Melbourne club almost doubles that. :\:

Indeed
Wests Tigers director David Trodden, the spokesman for the clubs, said: ''The clubs were of the belief that there was a funding facility in place to allow that to happen, but there is a bit of doubt about that now.

''What I do know is that having 15 of 16 [clubs] losing money is not sustainable in the long term. The days of leagues clubs putting their hands in their pockets have gone. They are not going, they are gone.''
