Ok RL 101 for Xman. In RL you only have to score 3 times to get 18 points. It's 4 points for a try, i.e. when a player grasses the ball over the tryline. and two points for a conversion. i.e. a kick aimed to go between the posts which is taken from a chosen distance directly back from the line in which the try is scored.

Well I was under the impression that if you trail 18-0 you need to score 3 tries and convert at 100% to even the game up. To win you must score one more time.

So when a team loses 18-0 it's not a blow out because scoring 3 tries is possible? who cares whats possible.the fact is they didn't. In fact they didn't score anything in 80 minutes. They failed! They were beaten by a factor of infinity.

Not necessarily.

An 18-0 score at half time in the NRl must look pretty ominous.

An AFL team can be 5 goals down at half time and certainly still be in the game, but be out scored by 10 goals in the last half and lose by 15.

I'm happy to concede a lower scoring game can appear closer despite one team dominating on the scoreboard. But the entire issue relates to which games attendances and ratings are effected because of matches that are very one sided and less interesting to neutral supporters. So far the AFL are ahead on attendances and ratings compared to last year. The NRL are down on attendance and I'm not surer on ratings but I haven't heard they're ahead.

The comp is expanding. It's done a similar thing a number of times and has always come out fine. 2 teams out of 18 is a minor issue. But as you rightly say, AFL supporters are loyal overall and are behind expansion.

If it was an issue that was likely to last more than a few years I'd be concerned. But the benefits of an expanding national competition far and away outway the negatives of a competition with two raw but developing teams.

Nope. It isn't. The top end is more even this year than for a number of years. Collingwood Carlton Geelong westcoast and hawthorn all appear to be genuine GF contenders. The fight for the 6-8th spots fill be very evenly fought between the dogs, bombers, Roos, tigers, dockers, crows, swans, and saints. The lower teams will develop in the coming years. This will be a very interesting year. Almost 1 million viewers yesterday shows the viewers are well and truly interested.

As I said the gap between the top tier and the lower teams is an absolute chasm. 3 to 5 games per week are non events, something which will not doubt be noticed and have serious efrfectsz. We've already seen massive drops in supporter numbers at the GC... Reality check Xman. Its time for you to face the fact and be honest.

The gap between the top 5 and the bottom 2 is huge but will narrow with each year. The middle tier will beat teams in the top 5 this year there is no doubt.

It's not unusual for a new team to have a quiter second year. Wait til they start winning.
