Then we have Xman who firstly tries to claim he knows what a close game in RL means, again through one of the dumbest irrelevant mathematical equation one could make up. Unfortunately Xman you've told us before you know nothing about RL so ah hows about you stop pretending you know about it and pisss orrfff to the AFL forum as you clearly have nada to contribute here. An absolute dingbat is Xman.

Then in comes cos. A man who clearly doesnt know what he thinks. He doesnt know whether he's arthur or marthur and in the end he gets most everything incorrect. Unfortunately he just cant bring himself to know the truth - that i've played the sport he loves and am currently playing in sydney :D From this end i can only laugh at how incorrect this couch potato expert actually is

As cos has rightly said, a close competition will produce greater supporter interest, manifesting as better crowds and TV ratings. We both know who is ahead on these measures.

As cos has rightly said, a close competition will produce greater supporter interest, manifesting as better crowds and TV ratings. We both know who is ahead on these measures.

RL is the most watched sport in this country so yes .. the closeness of our comp would be a reason why that is the case

Better crowds the AFL comp does attract. I acknowledge that wholeheartedly. But total viewers has been proven by raiderdave to be in RL's favour. So yes the closeness of the NRL comp is shining through in both the stats and the results.

Time to acknowledge that you were a fair way off the mark in your initial prediction of rd 1 Xman. I'd just like to point out once more that Raiderdave was closest in his estimate...again.

Me on the other hand. Well, I've played aussie rules as an international o/s and at club level here in aus. I've been watching the sport for near on ten years. And i've played RL and been watching since I was a toddler. I'm the man who knows what a thorough win is in both codes and I also know what makes for an interesting game in both codes.

Believe me folks, Xman, the judge of the BS files is full of BullSh.it.

Ahh yeah derp. I play it and watch it dumbo. Have done for years. I'm not confessing to know more than the AFL clan in here although I must say some of you are that obsessed with the marketing/promo/business/boring side of the sport that it appears you dont even care about or understand what happens on the field. TLPG and cos are prime examples. TLPG even had the hide to state umpires know more about the game than players. Sacrilige!! But yeah I know plenty about the sport.

On the other hand you've clearly confessed and proven you know jack diddly squat about RL so in future Xman it'd be best you dont try to or pretend to. You have no credibility on matters with anything to do with NRL or RL. Self confessed!

Nice try Xman but the point is the AFL have a serious problem on their hands. The term competition and the AFL just dont sit together no more.

They have 2 brand new teams who everyone knows will take 3-4 years to be competitive because they have started from scratch with a young talented list.

A real problem is having teams that are uncompetitive and broke, like Fitzroy were. This doesn't poly to any current AFL team. The only one remotely similar of recent years would be Port Adelaide, who are clearly better this year.

I'm going to stick my oar in here and point out another really good indicator in the AFL. Membership numbers. In 2011 according to the easiest source I could find (Wikipedia - yes I know it's not the most reliable but it will do for now), there wasn't a club with numbers below 10K. In fact only the Gold Coast were below 20K. Fitzroy in their dying years struggled to make 5K IIRC, which I think is about the same level as a lot of NRL clubs.

So who has the serious problem again?
