western australia, the forgotten state?
Although new to the code wars, I have been somewhat bemused by pro nswrl people disrespecting my beloved state!
On one topic in which the two wa AFL clubs huge memberships were reported a nswrl fan replied "wa? who cares" (close to 100,000 just to start) then another topic stated perth "wants" there own nrl team. Why? because tony sage thinks it would be a good investment? well when taking his advice remember that this is the same man who bought perth glory!
so having read all this I have taken upon myself to educate a few simple folk on the western state.
Western Australia is the fastest growing state in the country ( western Australia recorded the fastest growth (2.6%) source abs 2011)
Western australians, like vic and sa love sport! mostly AFL but if you put an aussie emblem on a shirt they will embrace it as if they followed it there whole lives.
Its two AFL clubs are financial powerhouses (west coast are considered one of the big four) with both clubs filling patterson stadium to capacity week in week out.
Other domestic teams in wa (force, glory, wildcats, fever ect) are a long way behind them.
Western australia is home to the worlds largest miners and is swimming in petro dollars so coming up with a viable financial structure is possible but thats only one part of launching an expansion team, you then need to get people to turn up to the games!
so when you figure how to get them to turn up in your own heartland, then maybe you can look at wa because seriously there are more people in line for a beer at an AFL game then in your stadiums at one of your "heartland blockbusters"
and one final point in regards to crowds, nswrl people, you cannot use the old they (AFL fans) "only go because there is nothing else to do" as an argument because if nswrl rates so well but people dont turn up then by your own admittion your state is so boring that you people cant even summon the motivation to peel your backsides of the couch

Re: western australia, the forgotten state?
Nice post.
Unfortunately you need to realize that many NRL fans deliberately refuse to acknowledge Australian Rules Football in states other than Victoria because they would prefer to think that Victoria is an anomaly in its passionate support of ARs.
Little do they realize that the people of WA SA and Tas are equally as passionate about ARs, and even still follow their original state league to a healthy degree. I for one am proud of the following Perth give the WCEs and Freo. =D> It sure puts the Broncos, the NRLs biggest team, into perspective. This NRL team averages 30-35k attendance with 25k members from 2 million people. The AFL in Perth has 100k members and averages 70-80k attendance per fortnight from a city of 1.8k.

But milznjim you forget some important points. Yes growth in Western Australia is admirable but Western Australia is home to the largest population of bogans and racists in this country. And which sport attracts the most bogans and racists? You got it, its the AFL competition :D
You see its not all about numbers and growth my dear milznjim, you have to look at the ilk of the folk being produced and reproduced in the states which include high proportions of bogans and racists i.e. sa and wa. So when a RL fan in here states "wa, who cares?" I want you to take some time and think a lil deeper next time as to why he may not care.

What evidence do you have to make such an inflammatory comment about attitudes in WA? Sounds like you're the one with the attitude problem, labelling a state as having the highest proportion of racists without a shred of proof.

Re: western australia, the forgotten state?
KE is an idiot. That much has long been clear.
Good post milznjim. I've long marvelled at the passion West Australians demonstrate for the sporting teams in particular Australian Football.
As for talk of another NRL team being attempted in Perth, I heard a great analogy on the radio here in Sydney the other day. In describing the NRL, the commentator compared the NRL to Dymocks bookstores and said if you have 14 of your 16 Dymocks stores running at a loss with one about to shut shop (liquidated Titans), why would you even talk of expansion in new markets where you have previously failed (ie: Perth Reds). You'd think you would focus on getting your current franchises in order and profitable first wouldn't you?

Re: western australia, the forgotten state?
Umm how does history, goverment policy, current affairs and incarceration rates stand as evidence? Xman its widely known WA has had a very poor history in regards to race relations, particularly in regards to the states treatment of Indigenous peoples. Unfortunately theres plenty of evidence to highlight the ongoing backward ways of wa. Now I'm not saying nsw should be seen as a patron saint, but the facts speak for themselves.Xman wrote:

Now milznjim posed a problem, that being why a certain member from the eastern states would say "who cares about wa". I provided a valid answer. Xman your degrading and desperate kissing of milznjim's boots did not help the poor bastard at all with his conundrum. Of course nrl supporters realise the AFL games get big crowds over there.
Now maybe i was taking it a bit far with the bogans but i feel racists and bogans are related and popular culture tells us there's lots of bogans in SA and WA (think of the mockumentary 'we can be heroes'

Beaussie your dymocks analogy is about as intelligent as a dag hanging off a sheeps arse.

Listen to me milznjim, I'm the closest to correct on this one. Also perth is a city which touts itself as the most remote city in the world. Another reason those on the east dont really care. It might be tough but this is reality my friend.

Yours sincerely,
KE

Are these your words? Now your claiming it's history, and government policies that are racist, not the bogans.Western Australia is admirable but Western Australia is home to the largest population of bogans and racists in this country. And which sport attracts the most bogans and racists?
You're confused!

I think you're confused, as always. History, govt policy etc all contribute to the values and attitudes of today.

For the first and probably last time i have to agree with XMAN, You cant say WA are a bunch of racists, your drawing the longest bow know to man. No I'm providing reason as to why RL supporters in the eastern states might ignore wa. And I said WA is home to the largest population of bogans and racists.
Not all wa people are racists. B ig difference although in hindsight I prob should have said largest "proportion" of bogans and racists. Please excuse me.
I just hope the people of wa can own up to their past and the issues prevalent within their state and agree with me. Acknowledging the facts is the first step forward. Cos? milznjim? As sandgropers what would you say about my comment? Do you think there's a high proportion of racists out your way? I know that many over this way think thats the case.

okay, im gunna tell you straight up! wa is not racist that is utter trollop. That been said the bogan statement is fairly accurate! however given the fact that rugby is about a line of bogans trying to jelly wrestle a line of neanderthals holding a bannana wouldn't the bogans of this great state embrace your game
Oh and I stand up proudly whith hand on heart and say "yes! I am a bogan!"

I didnt say WA is racist. I said it has the highest proportion of racists. This I know is quite difficult to prove but believe me, there's a lot of evidence supporting my claim. But I see milznjim only believes in the bogan factor being true. Well that's just your opinion milznjim and you're entitled to it.milznjim wrote:okay, im gunna tell you straight up! wa is not racist that is utter trollop. However, I think it was Raider who 'didnt care about wa' in the first place and he seems to agree with my initial post. Therefore I'd have to say I'm correct on my assertion that the member (and others) in the east who didnt/dont care about wa, dont care because of the high proportion of bogans and racists out that way.
Thankyou all and good day.

Live NRL on Channel 9 in Perth is proving to be a disaster for the network. My god, anyone taken note. How does the NRL honestly think Perth is fertile ground for expansion.
