105,000 tickets were sold for the 2 SOO's in Brisbane in about 40 minutes
that 3rd one would have drawn ova 100,000 fans if a venue in Brisbane held that many
they'd draw 80,000 to almost every SOO played in brisbane ... but they only play 3 there every 2 years

The fact is the NRL let ch9 dictate the playing schedule to maximize ratings, at the detriment of your entire competition. The AFL stand up to ch7 and demand the schedule be shown fairly at the expense of ratings. As can be seen by the ratings for games not involving the broncos the ratings are much lower on average.

How then can live targeted games of NRL be compared to non targeted delayed AFL games?

Sydney get the Swans each week, Perth get there team each week and Qld get a Queensland team each week. The only problem arises because the NRL doesnt enjoy the FTA coverage the AFL .

“If you’ve got clubs who think the only way they can prosper is to meekly put their hands out and maybe get a few crumbs off the table of the AFL, they’re never going to fight their way to the top.”

Kennett said the Magpies, Hawks and Geelong – the AFL’s three most recent premiers – had all been close to extinction within the past 15 years, but had fought their own way out with good business models.

“Unfortunately, for a number of years now, many of those businesses have not been run successfully enough to be sustainable, independent of the mother ship, which is the AFL,” he said of less successful rivals.

Kennett expected at least half the AFL’s clubs would receive special assistance next season.

“The chances of them rebounding financially in the next five years is very limited. So we do have an underlying issue. It’s a question of sustainability.”

What? Some teams get extra assistance yes. This is usually in extenuating circumstances like port adelaide and their difficulties with the SANFL. It has no impact on their on field performance which is essentially regulated by the draft and salary cap.

Sydney are shown in Sydney etc but they are not all shown in the same game. That's the point. The NRL can appeal to almost their entire city heartland population in a single game by showing the broncos v a popular Sydney team. This game rates well as it should. The AFL show their teams to their home markets over a number of split games across the weekend. Individually they rate really well but they are not tallied together as a single game like ch9 do for the NRL on FN. yet adding all the AFL games ratings together shows they rate very well and easily win the 5 city FTa ratings.
