I think you are grossly over-estimating the importance of a preseason cup game. All the games had crowds well below normal home and away crowds, and the giants were no exception.King-Eliagh wrote:yeah 7000, in a city of 4million, when there's only one alternative marngrook team in the city to support, when its a new side to play in the premier comp this year, when its a balmy saturday evenin, when its, wait for it, the TSUNAMI...is a pretty piss poor effort. tell us Xman, nsw and beaussie, would have y'all thought a bigger crowd was coming? With all the talk around these parts I certainly did.
the Tsunami ... their first " real" game at home in front of their fans .. I mean.. collinthorn had more fans thereXman wrote:I think you are grossly over-estimating the importance of a preseason cup game. You and Raiderdave are the only ones using the Tsunami term. Idiots!
As for Hobarts, they are desperate for a first class event of any kind down there. They essentially only get one test match per year. This will be rectified in the near future as the AFL schedule regular season games there.
Remember though, it's only really Sydney that don't turn out to sporting events in decent numbers. Hence the fact the giants practice match out drew a number of regular NRL games last year.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Wrong. The highlights showed way more giants fans. No supporters travel interstate for mickey mouse round robin practice games!Raiderdave wrote:the Tsunami ... their first " real" game at home in front of their fans .. Not really. They are starved for decent sporting events from the mainland down there. They also have a fierce rivalry with Launceston over which region should host these events. The fact they turned out in numbers on a one off event shows they are keen to be included in Australia's favorite past time of watching sport.King-Eliagh wrote:Looks like Hobart might be RL Heartland... Amazing crowd if you ask me, for such a small city, for a pre season game. Wow! It shocked me. Did it shock you Xman? Just a little bit?

Good thing the AFL have many home and away games planned for this city over the next few years.
If the NRL think this is RL heartland they are welcome to place a team there if they wish.
Go ahead then. Be our guest. Your expansion team in Melbourne is a basket case. Imagine in Hobart!Raiderdave wrote:Xman wrote:Not really. Yet 7k for a practice game is bigger than a number of NRL season games last year. Is there a bigger joke than the NRL?Raiderdave wrote:NSWAFL wrote:Corrected and on the contrary, an NRL team in Hobart would absolutely STIFF!Raiderdave wrote:looks like it would be about ... twice .. as succesful as aa AFL team in Western Sydney
