All the experts working in the AFL have so far done an outstanding job of establishing the game of ARs as Austalias dominant winter sport. But of course you know better.King-Eliagh wrote:BS points as proof
yeeeaaahhh riiiiight.
Interesting thread though. I particularly like to echo Judds thoughts, the dangers this expansion presents to the league are significant and worrying. Furthermore, it reminds me that although Sydney has enough population to hold two teams, there's still not a stong Marngrook culture here. The folk down at the AFL havent really thought this through imo. Darwin would have been the option, its a city on the rise and they love their victorian rules footy there. Instead of decades, the team there would be sustainable in less than 10 years.
They say too much money can go to one's head, seems that fat slobber digreedio may have forgotten how to spend wisely.

Agree. Outstanding effort to create a team from scratch that was more than competitive with two of the AFLs better sides.Raiderdave wrote:Xman wrote:All the experts working in the AFL have so far done an outstanding job of establishing the game of ARs as Austalias dominant winter sport. The AFL had a surplus of 59m last year. They have saved a proportion of their profits for years preparing for expansion. This expansion was a reason why they achieved 1.253bil in their last TV deal. A great deal of their expenditure last year was for stadiums and infrastructure. They aren't squandering, they are setting up their financially secure future.King-Eliagh wrote:This is a forum based on opinion Xman, you need to think through your last post some more. 'Experts' dont always get it right, and Raider has shown us many of the mistakes the AFL have made. I'm not saying its easy but it appears the AFL are squandering their fortunes on unsustainable options, like China for example, I mean what the fukk do they expect by spending millions over there on a sport which called 'Australian Rules'?![]()
A team in Darwin was the sensible sustainable option in many many ways. My fingers are crossed for GWS and the Swannies here in sydney, but I'm pretty worried it might be a case of too much too soon. The attendance out in blacktown on sat night supports my worries.
