THE West Australian Football League recorded its best attendance figures for a single round since 1994 when more than 19,000 fans flocked to games over the Foundation Day long weekend, lifting total attendance numbers 30 per cent higher than the same time last season.

A total of 19,420 people went to games at Rushton Park (2006) on Saturday and Monday’s contests at Arena Joondalup (3996), East Fremantle Oval (11,051) and Claremont (2367) to take the 2009 attendance total to 105, 660.

The weekend’s total of 19,240 was the largest for a single round since 21,906 fans attended the 1994 Foundation Day round. The total attendance up until round 10 that year was 135,604, which is also the biggest start to a season in the last 15 years, followed closely by this year’s 10-round total.

WAFL operations manager Clint Roberts said it was great to see attendance numbers continue to grow as the quality of games attracts big crowds to the football.

PLenty of ARs loving fans dont follow the AFL. They follow their original teams in their state leagues like the WAFL and SANFL.

If you think AR's is limited to the AFL you are sadly mistaken.

Differences:
- GWS and Suns are brand new teams with no fan base or success to date.

- They are funded by the AFL who already have the money

- The storm are heavily reliant on News Ltd. If they pulled out the Storm would be sunk, and the NRL as an organisation are not wealthy enough to bankroll them.

- The Storm have had 14 years of success. If they are not close to viable by now they maynever be.

News limited do not fund the storm, the other NRL clubs do as the 10 million a year news takes off the NRL for a war they started, the storm gets 6 million to fund all RL in Vic***ia, News keeps the other 4 million for themselves which so far has worked out to 52 million in the last 13 years doing nothing, oops, for starting a war I should say.

Not bad $$$ if you can get it for free huh?

Then they sit on both sides of the table when doing the TV deal and sell the sport to themselves on the cheap, so how much money News has made from RL in the last 14 years will never actually be known. When Packer was alive and the NRL was formed, 9 had a certain % of fox sports, they both teamed up and for 10 years, ch 9 paid the NRL 13 million a season as well.

AND YOU GUYS WONDER WHY RL IS STRUGGLING FOR MONEY AND WHY THE FANS ARE PISSED OFF.

SANFL ATTENDANCES HIT A SIX-YEAR HIGH


The SANFL has recorded a strong 6.8 per cent increase in League match attendances this season - the biggest numbers in six years.

The League’s minor round attracted 275,842 fans, the most since 2002.

The boost comes off the back of two years of successive growth, indicating the SANFL is well and truly undergoing a renaissance in the hearts of footy fans.

This year’s Round 23 attendance of 13,659 smashed last year’s 6,831-strong crowd and was the largest since 2000.

The highest attendance for 2008 season was Round 13’s bumper Glenelg v Sturt clash at Challenge Recruitment Oval, which attracted 11,827 fans.

The SANFL recorded 17 matches with attendance more than 4000, compared to 12 matches last year.
The best-attended round was Rivalry Round in Round 7 which drew 20,258 supporters.

The leading five clubs in terms of 2008 home and away attendances were:
1.Glenelg – average 4056-strong crowd each game (compared to 2007’s average of 2865)
2.Sturt – average 3849 (3414)
3.Port – average 3588 (3410)
4.Norwood – average 3490 (3043)
5.Central – average 3172 (3497)

Meanwhile, the home grounds that attracted the most supporters in 2008 were:
1.Challenge Recruitment Oval (Glenelg) – average 5158 (2007’s average 3091)
2.Coopers Stadium (Norwood) – average 3871 (3531)
3.Hamra Homes Oval (Central) – average 3698 (3830)
4.House Brothers Oval (Sturt) – average 3334 (3263)
5.Alberton Oval (Port) – average 3423 (3042)

Hell yeah, the Newcastle and QLD cup Leagues have always done well.

Illawarra Carlton League does ok, but the Gong is pretty spread out and not that big a population.

enough to be in the papers? The WAFL and SANFL are still popular state leagues with substantial followings. It's all AR's, and it's very strong. Far stronger than just the AFL.
