New commission is good for centralising bad decisions.
Cannot blame anyone else now.

Can't be worst than the last deal with News Limited buying the rights from News Limited.NSWAFL wrote:And that's why the TV deal won't get past $1 billion. News Limited is out and the penalty will be a sh1t TV deal.
Since when? the hottest sporting commodity is the one that is paid the most. Why would the NRL be a better product on TV if they pay the NRL significantly less?Raiderdave wrote:NSWAFL wrote:And that's why the TV deal won't get past $1 billion. News Ltd no more? Hahahacooee wrote:News stake in what?
Come Friday their 50% ownership will be no more. They will no longer take millions from NRL revenues to recoup their loses from Super League.
Part of the reason for the delays of setting up the Commission was the selection of the commissioners. They had to be Independent with no ties to either NEWS or the ARL.

You can't just whore yourselves to News Ltd and think they'll give up ownership and control of your game that easy, especially when you still owe them millions from your silly Super League war.
Meanwhile, your CEO (News Ltd lackey) has just had his contract extended. Approved of course by the so called independent commissioners.
Won't get it. Either lower the price, or get no coverage.Raiderdave wrote:NSWAFL wrote:And that's why the TV deal won't get past $1 billion. News Limited is out and the penalty will be a sh1t TV deal.![]()

You lot will end up with no interest demonstrating arrogance like that above. Clearly what the NRL and you have in mind is not as valuable to the ones with the money... the broadcasters.Raiderdave wrote:NSWAFL wrote:And that's why the TV deal won't get past $1 billion. Oh and as for News Ltd no more. Think again dopey. News Ltd have the first and lasts bid rights to the NRL until 2027CONSOLIDATED Media Holdings has raised questions about the value of some sports rights, warning that the pay-television industry will not overpay for the NRL rights amid market concerns about earnings growth at Fox Sports.
"I don't think there is any appetite at Fox Sports to hand vast additional cheques for no extra value. Unless (incumbent broadcaster) Channel 9 has got much, much deeper pockets than we all believe, then I think the prices that have been talked about with NRL remain confusing."

NRL sources confirmed Rupert Murdoch’s News Ltd, which will give its 50 per cent share of the NRL to the Australian Rugby League when the code’s new independent commission is set up later this year, has a first and last bid deal covering all media rights.
The deal runs until 2027 and was part of the NRL partnership agreement between News Ltd and the ARL.
“Premier wants more NRL matches but it is not going to pay 109 per cent more to get them,” said one TV executive. “Nine wants to keep its NRL rights, given the strong ratings NRL generates in NSW and Queensland but like Premier, it isn’t going to cop an outrageous increase.”
