Touch Footy is NOT Rugby League

Post by Beaussie »

I've seen it mentioned a few times here by RL supporters in a pathetic attempt to boost their miserable participation numbers.

Lets all be clear here.

Touch Footy is NOT Rugby League.

How many rules are different?

No tackling

No conversions

Different scoring

Different player numbers?

It's as different a game from league as union is!

Next you'll be calling lawn bowls the same as 10 pin bowling!

Don't give Parra any ideas, Xman! :D :D :D

Judging by the rules Xman gave, Touch RL is almost the same as Touch Footy and nothing like Rugby League!

Touch Footy is NOT Rugby League.

let be quite clear
it is a non contact varient of our game .... any bafoon can see this

6 uses of the ball before its turned over
ball played between legs
no forward passes
points scored by forcing ball in .. in goal area
rectangle field

it came about in the 1960's as there was a clear identified for a non contact version or RL

no question its one in our stable for the countless hundreds of thousands who love RL
but cannot play it for one reason or another

our other varient is tag
this is even closer to RL .. as it allows kicking

case closed
RL SOO II 4.194 Million veiwers
RL SOO I 4.068 Million
NRL GF 3.968 Million
VFL Grand Final 3.620 Million
SOO III 3.364 Million
NRL Prelim 2.219 Million

yep

look at game being played
it looks like RL without tackling & kicking ............. as close as you'll get

well .. tag is as close as you'll get

& your last 2 examples are as pathetic as I've seen on these pages

the numb of people who play sports where there are 6 uses of the ball
where they ball is brought into play by raking it back between the legs .. where transfers of the ball by hand cannot go forward
number ova 1 million in this country

so can we call all sport AFL that dont have tackling and kicking too?

Is basketball the same as netball? the both pass the ball the same. they both shoot into a ring. The rings are at opposite ends of the court, which is a similar size.

What about cricket and baseball? bat, ball, hit catch.......

Exactly. Alternatively why don't we call Touch Footy, Rugby Union?

Like I said, it's a pathetic attempt by RL supporters to try and boost their miserable participation numbers by claiming another totally different sports participation numbers. As pathetic as it gets.

The game of Touch had very humble beginings indeed. Used as a training technique for Rugby League teams during the 1950s and 60s it was never seen as a sport in its own right. Eventually more and more people turned to touch for a safe social game to play and it soon became inevitable that an official competition would be held.

There are currently 250,000 registered Touch players with approximately 500,000 school children playing the sport.
Rugby League has more claim to Touch then any other sport.

OZTAG (kicking allowed) states its a non tackling version of rugby league.

Please show us where Touch is in anyway administered by the NRL/ARL etc. What is the connection? Is none is there. You can't claim Touch participation numbers as RL participation numbers. That's my point and that much is obvious. You lot oughta remember that. NO CONNECTION I tell ya.

Case closed.

no sport closer, therefore it is??

close enough is good enough hey?

looks like kicking in play, conversions and tackling are only minor parts of league! after all if you tak them out its apparently still the same sport. :-k :^o
