GWS Giants seeking 17,000 members

THE GWS Giants have issued a challenge to their NRL rivals with a bold bid to sign up 17,000 members for their first AFL season.
Giants boss David Matthews told The Daily Telegraph: "It's ambitious but it's achievable and we think it represents good value for money."
The Giants preliminary figures stack up well against rugby league teams in their area. In 2011 the Parramatta Eels had 11,339 members, Wests Tigers 9286 and the Penrith Panthers 6421.
The AFL has a longer tradition of club membership than the NRL who have only recently started to expand their numbers.
The average AFL membership is more than 38,000 with Collingwood the highest at 71,000.
The Giants have just passed the 4000 mark with just over 1000 signing up since Christmas.

17,000 would be a wonderful achievement making them the club with the biggest membership base of any sporting club in western Sydney. Good luck Giants.

No, it's understandable for a new team in a foreign market. What's hilarious is the panthers only had 6k last year, and this IS their heartland!Raiderdave wrote:Beaussie wrote:17,000 would be a wonderful achievement making them the club with the biggest membership base of any sporting club in western Sydney. a 50% increase on 2010 for the Panthers ... & they're looking for a similar increase again this yearXman wrote:No, it's understandable for a new team in a foreign market. you seem to forget everytime memberships are discussed ... it is STILL a new concept in our game ... & it is now taking off & growing quite impressively
fact is ... Penrith in 2011 still had ova 3 times the members GWS do ATM ... GWS only having 2K Sydney members
GWS's pathetic tally may be understandable to a certain degree ( Leaguies have been saying this is what was going to happen )
but what isn't ... is another .. arrogant .. boastful ... Tsunami type headline from them ..
are they stupid ?
do they not see their present tally & the snail paced progress its making
where do the seriously think the 17K will come from if they can't fire up enough interest at this stage of their existence & only having 25% of that
2013 is going to be worse
when they finish last .. with no wins ... & several beltings that will challenge the record books
how do they think they can attract more then the 4K they have .. then ?
17K .... they need to let go of their c.ocks & stop being w@nkers

13k members for the giants in 2011, despite not playing a game in the big league. I wonder what increase 13k is from zero??
