I can't get into this site anymore, it's Professor Tony Collins blog and he mentions the early payments in one of his articles.

The sign on fee was where the big money came from, not the week to week coin players got.

RL (Northern Union) was paying well over a thousand pounds in the 30's and 40's to certain players just to sign on, you can also see a player in the movie "This sporting life" signing a contract for 1000 pounds sign on fee.

Don't take out these posts, I will find another link to prove it, hopefully T Collins site opens up to the general public again soon.

Searching now. (at least I go out of my way to prove my points, maybe you dickheads in here could take a leaf out of my book, fucking hypocrites).

As I said, if you have an issue with any poster who makes a claim without proof then just ask for it! If they fail or refuse I'll delete it.

Otherwise shut your girly tantrums the fuck up!

Ban him!
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Bahahahaha, I'm going to make xwoman eat his words, I just fired off an email. I will post the proof when I get a reply or if I find it sooner.

So get fucked.

Oh, and read this, you'll like it as it shows RL is and never was as racist as AR.

Eat what words. The rules are there for all. You call for proof and I'll act. Someone called it on you and you cried like a sook.

Seriously, have a whine!

Soccer payments between 1900 and 1939.

Not many people got 1000 pounds, in fact, only a couple it says did.

I'll go and find the same for RL during that time.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1900%E2%80 ... ion_season

by 1901 RL had hit 100 pound just for a transfer, the sign on bonus was more.
The Lancashire Senior Competition was won by Oldham and the Yorkshire Senior Competition by Bradford.
In 1901 Bramley's James Lomas became rugby league's first £100 transfer, moving to Salford.[1]

I suggest people who call out posters .. that then prove their claim as Parra has
need to be given a 24 hr ban as

A) punishment for suggestions a poster is lying
B) incentive for a poster to provide evidence .. at the moment there is none , why should we prove what we claim when mongs like NSWAFL then just do these ... [-( [-( [-( [-(

this needs to be put in to place
ASAP

lets go.........
RL SOO II 4.194 Million veiwers
RL SOO I 4.068 Million
NRL GF 3.968 Million
VFL Grand Final 3.620 Million
SOO III 3.364 Million
NRL Prelim 2.219 Million
Kangaroos V NZ 1.214 Million

Sookerwhos V Japan 238K

Ahhhh, no.

If you make a claim as fact be prepared to back it up. That's your duty for claiming it.

Trivia

During the period before signing for Salford, Gus Risman was also courted by Association Football clubs. Tottenham Hotspur offered Risman terms. However, in those days football did not have the huge initial gravitas it enjoys today. During the 1920s, signing for a rugby league club was more financially rewarding. Signing-on fees were restricted or capped in football, whereas in Rugby League such fees could be a year's worth of work and playing wages combined. Risman went on to be one of the game's legendary players and was one of the inaugrual inductees into the Rugby League Hall of Fame.
