A simple & inferior version of Rugby, tagged as "league" by some, which is played by Mungo simpletons. "Ball" is simply added to the end to specify the game rather then the players or fans.

Preferred by low intellect Northerners and Australians due to the simple form of tackling, the number of phases allowed in any possession able to be counted on one hand and the low intellect required for the rules required as suffered by locals of those regions.

Only idiots in the Media or fuckwit northerners & Convicts think Mungoball is an entertaining form of rugby.

I actually think this guy Karl sums RL up best. Well done Karl.

It's called Mungoball for a reason - big blokes for whom the subtelty of a ruck, maul, lineout and a real scrum is a little taxing may find refuge in the simplicity of uncontested possession and the relief of being allowed to climb back to ones feet in order to deliver the ball to their team-mates unmolested - absent a forearm to the face or a digit in the rectum of course. The more nimble fellows have a couple less defenders to deal with too. And the fans can enjoy the blissful simplicity of only worrying about forward passes and high tackles with all of those pesky and complicated rules that clutter Rugby having been removed from League, along with all the annoying, confusing and tricky bits of the game they dealt with.

Mungoball players and observers get to enjoy a game that is to sport much as Ikea is to home decoration - a simplified and lower quality version of real furniture. Sells like crazy though in certain markets and good luck to them, clever little Swedes. Anyone who's not a Uni student or inner-urban cafe dweller realises the stuff is crap of course, but it fills a niche.

I have never read such rubbish about tackling! The AFL is excellent at it and it is one of many defensive tactics that the best teams are tremendous at. RL however has been downright dangerous.

The AFL tackle serves the purpose it is designed to do. Not just to stop the player from continuing to run with the ball, but to pressure him into disposing of the ball. If he cannot do this legally he is penalized.

There is no point in an AFL player laying a massive bone crunching tackle on a player if said player just disposes of the ball to a team mate. Most of the time the defender will need to be ready to tackle another player immediately after, hence many tackles are more about restriction and less about brute force.

In RL many of the tackles are to stop a player from penetrating the defense so they are big hits. In AFL the offensive player can evade the defender in any direction and will just pass over the top of the defender when able. Therefore the defender and the player with the ball are often running in the same direction when the tackle is applied, so the tackle is less of a clash and more of a catch.

The only time this occurs is when the tackler has to let go as the player he is tackling has disposed of the ball. Otherwise he tackles hard and takes the player to the ground. Hardly a "square dance"!
