AFL is played in more countries than RL. Fact.

The end.

if by played .. you mean ex pats having a giggle in a park followed by a sausage sizzle afterwards
maybe .. I still think we'd do better there too

but if by played.. you mean .. seriously by professional & semi professional players
as a part of clubs .. some 118 years old
watched by crowds up to 90,000
who form national teams to play us ..

then no
as RL is 100 miles ahead of flogball internationally
RL SOO II 4.194 Million veiwers
RL SOO I 4.068 Million
NRL GF 3.968 Million
VFL Grand Final 3.620 Million
SOO III 3.364 Million
NRL Prelim 2.219 Million
Kangaroos V NZ 1.214 Million

Notwithstanding any burps from a burp machine.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

I'd put in it the mathmatically challenged and delusional category.
Nice try Cos.

Well I think you're overestimating a little there Xman.

RL CROWDS are lower than AFL crowds. But that's been established and agreed upon by every member of this forum. So why you AFL folks bother bring it up is beyond me and requires serious clinical assessment.

This thread is about international footy. And if you folks cant see the truth in parraeels pictures and descriptions and admit you got a looooooooong way to go, in fact further than the NRL has to go in terms of crowds, to catchup to international RL. And if you folk cant admit that, then clinical assessment wont help, shock therapy might, but prob wont either.

Thoughts cos amd xman?
My comment is totally relevant!

International could also be termed world-wide.

And worldwide AFL is bigger than all RL leagues put together.
NFL is probably not played in as many countries as RU. BUT NFL is clearly the bigger sport world-wide.

its not even bigger then RL in the only country its played in

RL .. 136 Million sets of eyes watching in 2011
AFL... 128 Million

worldwide
AFL another .... I dunno ... 500 :-k

RL
Eng .. another 60 Million
NZ .. another 30 Million
PNG .. another 30 Million

worldwide
RL ova a quarter of a billion watchers in 2011
AFL 128 Million .. & 500

thems the facts
You're making the classic RL fans mistake of assuming TV audience is the only indicator of a codes size and popularity.

Of course TV ratings vary enormously depending on when the games are scheduled, how they are scheduled (live or delayed), and how often they are scheduled (longer season or shorter seasons).

RL have a longer season, live prime time schedules and up to 7 games viewable per week. To date the AFL have had shorter seasons, few live games and only 4-5 viewable games per week. All things considered the NRL should decimate the AFL in the 5city ratings, but they actually lose and by a fair margin. They need to add dubious regional figures to win meaningless cumulative ratings.

Yet if popularity and size are to be truly evaluated correctly the TV ratings are only one of a number of key indicators that should be used. Revenue, media interest, memberships and crowds are all as or even more important.

Therefore, even if the NRL claimed a dubious TV ratings advantage over the AFL the latter absolutely smashes the NRL in every other quantifiable measure by double the amount or more!

Further, the NRL is clearly the worlds largest RL competition, with only minor or amature leagues located in a limited number of other countries. Therefore, even if the key indicators for all the worlds RL competitions were combined the AFLs enormous advantage in every area bar the TV ratings would see it easily claim to be the larger code on a world wide scale.

Rugby League beats the AFL with professional clubs easily.

Rugby League beats AFL in TV ratings in Australia alone, so no need to mention other countries.

Rugby League beats AFL in merchandise sales in Australia, world wide it's not a contest.

Rugby League has more semi pro competitions, AFL has none.

Rugby League has more players.

Rugby League has more pro comps.

Rugby League holds more interest in many more countries than AFL.

RL has a bigger aggregate crowd figure for home and away games than the AFL 6.8 million in England alone.

Rugby League gets more media coverage than AFL.

FL players are not known outside Australia beside expats, Rugby League players are known in quite a few countries.

Rugby League can play Rep games against other nations playing by the Rugby League rules, AFL have never done this at semi pro level let alone Pro level.

Rugby League is a recognised sport with the commonwealth games committee and will should be a demonstration sport on the Gold Coast in a few years, AFL will never get that far.

Rugby League is recognised by the Olympic committee as one of two forms of Rugby Football. The Olympics have never heard of AFL.

Rugby League had the first Aboriginal Captain of his country, first captain and coach of his premiership team in Australia, Rugby League also has the honour of having the first Black and Asian Britain players captaining the British Lions and captaining a WC team.

Rugby League was the first sport in France to allow Gypsies to play the game and they were the first to have said gypsies captain the national side Les Blues.

Rugby League was the first code to get the government to allow Aboriginal players to have the right to leave Australia and make a living in England playing sport.

Ect ect ect.

We can all play these games, but Rugby League IS bigger, much BIGGER than AFL.

Yet the AFL is still bigger than RL. This is because RL may be a reasonable size in Australia, but it comes second to the AFL by some margin. But RL internationally is a joke and contains small leagues of little to no consequence.

Truth hurts of burpville I'd say.

Without seeing it, would I be right in saying the poster above who's obviously tipsey would've mentioned burp or burps?

If I laid down $100 on a bet with anyone, would I win?

100% I'd win, just like 100% I have absolutely destroyed the AFL fanbois in this thread.
