I acknowledged bombs and grabbers were one of the only contested possessions in RL. But let's face it, there is some skill in the kicking part, but ther is also a decent amount of luck. The conversion rate for these forward moves must be pretty low.

Hand skills in RL are very underdeveloped. Sure the penalty for fumbling is there, but only if the fumble is forwards. LOL

Pretty much every pass by hand is to a player on his own, with no pressure from an opposition player to spoil a pass that is too slow, too high, or a poorly chosen option. The receiver is free to collect the ball with no need to directly beat a defender.

These are very basic skills any netballer, footballer, basketballer just takes for granted! In RL it's one of your only ball skills!

Holding on to a ball when tackled may be a skill, but not one involving a contest for possession, which has already been decided

AR players have very little skill where handling is concerned .. there fumbling & bumbling even when they're not under any pressure
is more then enough proof

RL players have far better hands .... their vision & perception of depth , & lines are unequalled
ball players in our game just can't pass the ball onto the next player

they must create space ... they do this by playing flat or with depth depending on what is in front of them
go to the line .. commit defenders ..& give a short ball to a runner hitting the hole you've created at pace .. pass must be delivered with perfect timing .. & the runner must have the right line to break the defence
subtle & brilliant
it puts pressure on great NRL defences .... it would have AR players in a league defensive line not knowing their ear hole from their **** shoot

off loading under pressure is a skill AR players would not get anywhere near to perfecting .. hell they wouldn't even get to try n offload it , they'd have it dislodged every tackle they took in our game by the brutal defence they'd have to endure
they'd be hooked from the field as they'd be too costly to leave out there .. fumbling n bumbling around

nah
the Skill set in our game is highly developed ... magnificent to watch .. absorbing when teams have it firing
I like the majority of aussie's .... love it
seriously love it
As already stated, and not refuted by any RL supporter yet, there are limited number of contested possessions, and limited ways a RL player is required to pass and receive the ball, meaning RL players and fans can NEVER question the ball skills of another sport.

It's like a kid playing WOW questioning the skills of a computer programmer. Like an L plater criticizing an F1 driver.

Until RL has a higher level of ball skills than a simple uncontested throw and catch your comments on ball skills in other sports are all ignorant and to be treated as such.

do you think we care about contested posession .. all that leads to is the bumbling mess of a spectacle you have
or rugby union .. just as boring
soccer don't get me started on that cr@p

our game is the ultimate contest ... of raw physical strength & Skill
a battle for territory earnt through bone jarring domination of opponent both with the ball .. & without
there are no footballers as strong & at the same time agile in any code this country
add the deft touch & mind boggling vision

Keep to the truth.
The majority of Australians prefer the Australian game of Australian Football to the imported English imperial codes.

136 Million .. to 128 Million .................says something different
Be even funnier when the game gets nation wide coverage too, the gap will only grow. They know, we know it, but it still hurts and frustrates them.

Love it.
Because people in Vic Tas SA and WA are desperate to watch the NRl given they each have a team that gets such good attendances!

Oh wait.....there's one team in all those states combined that gets less than 10k for some games despite being ladder leaders!

national coverage at a decent time can only lead to bigger ratings for such a popular sport .... 1.4 Million Melbournians watched our 4 biggest games
not including another 500K watched the Storms 2 last games of the year shown at a decent time for once in Bleak city
thats near to 2 Million for 6 games of RL on at a decent time
ratings the Swans & Lions & AFL in general would pee in their pants to get outside of the giggleball states [-o<

Perth will have a side again in a few years .. watch ratings rise ova there for our great game as a result
they'll be no more having to wait for NRL to appear on FTA TV before midnight from 2013.... it will be readily available live on digital carriers in the Sthn states

You're quoting figures for finals and rep games for a city that actually has a team. How's that going to help you in Tas SA and wa? How's that going to help you when the storm finally miss the finals?

The lions and suns regularly rated 60-100k in Brisbane, and some on payTV, despite Brisbane being half the size of Melbourne, and both teams being in the bottom few. These are figures the NRL would only dream of for the storm in Melbourne for regular season games. :D

Try looking with your eyes this time!

Both the suns and lions got between 70k and 110k almost every week, plus they were live and ad free on foxtel most times as well.

These are great figures for expansion teams in a city of 2million.

In fact the NRL only rated 90k to 180k for Sunday games, and many 9.30 FN games, and none of these games were simulcast on foxtel or against any other games.

These are excellent results and prove the strength of th AFL in QLD especially since the teams were in the bottom few on the ladder and thrashed almost weekly!

The storm on the other hand are riding high and at the peak of their on field powers. They need to be consolidating this success with off field results right now. So let's have a look: Home game average of only 14k in a brand new stadium, FTA ratings average in Melbourne (4mil) of about 60k with no concurrent payTV game to steal viewers! And this is when they are
ladder leaders!

Oh dear.....

Suns are jumping around with joy if they get to 40K
neither were ever on ... on FTA & pay at the same time in Brsibane

don't compare these woeful ratings to any of the QLD NRL sides
the Broncos worst ratings of the year would be bigger then the best rating the Lions & Suns could put together .. combined.

the Storm attracted around 15K a week to AAMI .. thats OK .. it's getting better
they also do considerally better on TV .. when they're shown at a good time .. which is rare ... then their equivalent 2 AFL sides in Sydney & Brisbane who've been rammed down the throats of people in NSW & QLD for decades
god knows what'd be happening if they were shown regularly in prime time ... spose we'll find out in 2013
