AFL jumps at foothold

Principal Barry Miller, Peter Stokes, Les Munn, Jessie Wharepouri, Jason Lawless, Letitia Wallace and Paul Reid at the oval.
THE AFL is set to launch a raid into rugby league and Manly Sea Eagles heartland with plans to house an elite training academy at Narrabeen Sports High School.
The school has reached an in-principle agreement with Pittwater Council to fund an extensive upgrade of its main oval to a fully synthetic and floodlit, dual-purpose AFL and soccer pitch, at a cost of more than $1 million.
Once the pitch is built, the school and the AFL’s vision is for an academy to use the facilities by 2013.
This could include the Sydney Swans relocating their northern academy from Macquarie University to the northern beaches.
The hope is that having the academy train at the school would encourage members to enrol in its new emerging athlete program, to be run by AFL.
AFL NSW/ACT confirmed its vision was for an elite academy on the northern beaches.
“Aspiring kids would then be able to see a pathway from Auskick through the academy and to the elite level,” a spokesman said.
A spokesman for the Swans was unable to confirm relocation plans, but said the club was delighted with the actions of the school.
“We’re really happy that there’s a school showing a commitment to AFL and there’s a potential for a link between our academy in the north of Sydney and the school,” he said.
The move is part of an effort by Narrabeen Sports High School to arrest an alarming drop in enrolments. Next year it will launch its Northern Sydney Scholastic and Sports Academy for elite and emerging athletes, including AFL.
As well as elite training, students who enrol will undergo mentoring, attend nutrition seminars and sit in on meet-your-hero lectures.
Deputy principal Peter Stokes said he approached all football codes about establishing programs, with the AFL jumping at the chance to get a foothold in league territory.
“The fact that we will have a fully-fledged AFL ground within a school, the first of its kind in NSW, is enormous for the sport,” he said. “Our vision is that the Swans Academy would come here in 2013 and use the ground after hours.”
Mr Stokes said the new pitch would be used for the school sporting and academy programs during the day and a coveted ground for community use after school hours and the weekends.
The new pitch is just one of a number of developments in the school.

It's called expansion. Better than RL in states outside NSW and QLD. Wait, is there any?

No there isn't.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

And where is the same occurring for RL outside NSW and QLD?
Thats the funny thing about RL supporters, they are happy when their code looks bigger in their own heartland yet completely ignore how insignificant it is across the rest of Australia.

The Manly AFC was unlucky not to make top division for this upcoming season underpinned by the booming manly JAFC.
The North Shore AFC has picked up disgruntled North Sydney patrons and even established an elite junior side.
The North Shore AFC has always been a force on the North side from before rl was imported for imperial England.
With Manly RLFC increasingly relying on islander players the North Shore is a prime target especially as it was one of the rl clubs that didn't make a profit this year.
Nice try Cos.

Haha, coming from a supporter of a code that regularly jerks off over garbage TV ratings results. Yet the AFL just let their product do the talking and cash in!Raiderdave wrote:Xman wrote:And where is the same occurring for RL outside NSW and QLD?

The AFL attract far more media attention because far more Australians are interested in AFL.

Xman, one must remember that with News Limited lackies on the NRL board they have an open ear to the media anyway. And they still can't get the attention the AFL does.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

Omg! What's the point in the NRL having 5 city broadcasts? There's no teams in 2 of the cities, and the other regularly gets crowds of less than 10k despite being ladder leaders located in a city that loves attending sport!!!Raiderdave wrote:Xman wrote:Haha, coming from a supporter of a code that regularly jerks off over garbage TV ratings results. The cumulative figures are rubbish as shown in the tv ratings thread on this forum, and you are now ignoring it. The NRL claim to have won a ratings race that counts heavily in their favor, includes internationals, a longer season, and 7 weekly viewable games to the AFL's 4.
Yet after all this, all they do is compare their deal to the massive result clinched by the AFL! " look at me, look at me" DG cries, just like the ugly sister craving attention. She prostituted herself to payTV long ago. Now all the boys are sick of her.
Cool story bro!
