AFL has trade week to avoid the farcical situation in NRL

Post by Beaussie »

Farcical. Still dopey throwball fans in the main just sit back and accept this ridiculous situation.
James Maloney deal sparks call for draft
Neil Cordy
The Daily Telegraph
November 29, 201112:00AM

THE AFL may not be perfect but it's 460 days better than the system in place in the NRL.

That, of course, is the time between Warriors star James Maloney signing for the Roosters and when he pulls on the boots for them.

While there is no ill will from his New Zealand Warriors teammates and the club have consented to James Maloney's wishes to move to Australia, it is the fans that suffer.

The AFL has trade week to avoid the farcical situation rugby league finds itself in.

It is set aside at the end of the season and allows clubs to horse trade players.

At the end of the week where the deals have been done, those traded are officially players at their new club.

It is a lot cleaner, players' motives and loyalty aren't questioned and they can get on with the business of continuing their careers at their new clubs immediately.

The AFL operates like a business, the NRL's business model is more like anarchy.

Even the AFL draft makes more sense.

At last Thursday night's draft, the moment No.1 pick Jonathon Patton's name was called he became a Giants player. In a matter of minutes he had a Giants jersey on his back and was smiling for the cameras.

The next day Patton was training at Blacktown and meeting the rest of his teammates. So were most of the 60 odd players around the country drafted to other clubs.

There are also calls for a trade week to be introduced mid-season in the AFL. It will probably happen and when it does it will still be a more clean-cut process for all.

Excellent article, and from a Sydney based journalist as well.
Rugby League has a lying culture. Altering crowd figures, relying on inaccurate TV figures from regional NSW and refusing to distance itself from Leagues Clubs and obtain it's own club memberships as it relies on LC's to survive as private entities.

How the phuck is it a good article?

He has nfi.

AFL is stuck in Australia with no hope of moving out, that means if you are an AFL player, you take what you are given or go play bush footy.

In RL, we have comps outside Australia and if a player were to get put at a club he didn't want to play at, he could say, phuck you, I'll go to France, England Wales or whatever and play, he could very well say phuck you, I'll go and play Union.

All you AFL fans and your media are muppets that don't understand and damn thing.

You have no clue. The NRL transfer system is pathetic and antiquated to the point that it was created when Jesus Christ was born!

Nevermind, wont be long until the NRL once again copies the market leader the AFL. They have no original ideas of their own to address the farcial situations they find themselves in and it explains why they always play second fiddle to the monster in Australian sport... the AFL.

The NRL will not follow the AFL and introduce a draft. They will not force young men to and live in cities they did not select nor play for teams they did not choose. What a farce this whole draft is. Additionally is not the journalist Neil Cordy a footballer of the AFL kind

it was the most lop sided ... uninteresting ... unbalanced garbage comp there was in 2011
due to its present ineffective , unworkable & unfair systems
& the AFL allowing 2 new clubs to weaken most of the others .............

a complete dud was the AFL in 2011
