Terry, you may not like reach as a measurement of tv ratings, but the fact remains the broadcasters look closely at reach, as well as average, and regularly boast about reach figures in media releases. Add to that the AFL State of Origin was also broadcast on Foxtel and Kayo to which we have currently no viewer numbers, yet we can be confident the audience was massive based on trends we saw reported last season.
Beatup, you might want to speak to your dear friend Sookie about reach. After defending it early on he had a road to Damascus moment and stated the truth - its BS. No one in the media or broadcasting takes it seriously.

And yes, Foxtel numbers will get the avg ratings up toward 1.5Mish. Once again ok but nothing like the 'massive' audience you proclaim. I'll tell ya what's massive pal - average ratings of 3.75M, 3.76M and 3.9M - thats MASSIVE. And yep, thats RL SOO avg ratings 2025.

Get back to me when fumbling SOO gets anywhere near that. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

Watched a little when got home - the standard was pretty good I thought - good seeing Gawn, to Daicis, Dangerfield etc. But was an exhibition match that’s all - no real passion or strong vibes re: win at all costs type thing.
This is a pretty silly thing to say IMO. You could clearly hear the passion from the overwhelmingly pro WA crowd in the stands… loud and clear on the broadcast all night. And to suggest the players were not trying to win, I think is a ridiculous thing to say.
Whilst the crowd may have been vocal - I do not think that transferred to the the players - yes, they took it seriously - but the passion you see in a SoO - was clearly not there - big in Perth as they jump on anything state based as are parochial as you get - but if victoria lost I don't think anyone would have cared - just as no one really cares about them winning.
