International Bubbleball - Can't even give the tickets away

Post by Dogs »

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 6173523409

THE opener to the International Rules series is in danger of being a flop - fewer than 10,000 tickets have been sold for Friday night's Australia-Ireland clash at Etihad Stadium.
That is despite significant discounts for AFL club members and many giveaways.

This year's EJ Whitten Legends game, a battle of the bulge featuring stars of yesteryear, attracted 25,086 on a bleak winter night.

The AFL still hopes sales will pick up, confident that more publicity and tomorrow's official team gathering will raise interest. And many fans may simply walk-up and buy tickets on the night

Stadium management will consider closing the third level to avoid an unsightly amount of empty seats if sales don't get close to 20,000.

Prices range from $25 to $45. AFL club members were offered 40 per cent discounts and some clubs have given away tickets.

I've no doubt a bigger crowd will attend this game than any Rugby League international in this country this year.

I am finally starting to understand you; you’re not a liar at all. You listen to Alan Jones and read Murdoch papers and think these are facts. No wonder you are so messed up.

Scrap International Rules

Posted by Peter Crackers Keenan for General AFL - Mon, 24 Oct 2011 11:02
tweet0EmailPrintWho wants to go and see the International Rules on Friday night?

Not many people judging by the ticket sales.

The AFL have to offer free hot dogs, free parking and the opportunity to meet the players at half time, just to encourage people to get along.

It has possibly had its time.

People have been canning it this year, some journos who have gone on the drunk junket trip to Ireland in the past are bagging it.

In all seriousness it belongs to a bygone era.

Footballers are now professional, they need their six weeks off to get any operations out of the way and in a couple of weeks' time they'll all be back at it in pre-season training.

Why do they have to go and play when no one turns up?

Colin Sylvia obviously didn't want to play and was quite prepared to break curfew to get out of it.

I don't know too many people that are that keen to play.

Football comes around quite quickly and in three months' time we'll be right in it with the pre-season comp.

Let's concentrate on that and get rid of this international rules.

You can still recruit from Ireland but you don't have to come out here and play.

The concept belongs to last century.
