The NRL didnt buy Touch, they invested and have some board representation in Touch Football Australia - which rebranded to NRL Touch. It remains a separate organisation and is not an NRL subsidary.Terry wrote: Wed May 14, 2025 4:20 pm
Touch football is one of the best things Rugby League has going for it. No other sport has got a non contact version that so closely resembles the main game. It was a very smart move years ago for the NRL to buy it out and fold it into the ARLC.
It's Official. Perth Bears 100% confirmed as the NRLs newest team.

NRL fans are saying that the AFL can not conquer NSW and QLD, but somehow they think that the NRL is going to win over WA. Funny thing is that they are fixing up North Sydney oval ready for the Teddy Bears, and it is the Sydney fans of the Teddy Bears that are jumping for joy because their team has come back from the dead after all these years!

Thanks for clarifying Sooks. In that case it was a very smart move to invest in touch, get board representation and rebrand it NRL Touch.WookieReturns wrote: Wed May 14, 2025 4:27 pmThe NRL didnt buy Touch, they invested and have some board representation in Touch Football Australia - which rebranded to NRL Touch. Re: It's Official. Perth Bears 100% confirmed as the NRLs newest team.
Aren't they flush with cash?
Also, this type of thing is really counterproductive to establishing the Pearth Bears local identity - I think this could be an issue as if the people of Perth just see it as a means to an end to have the Bears sydney team back in the NRL - they will not be happy. Be interesting to see how this all works. how many games will be in North sydney oval ? I am hoping it is just "away" games that may be moved there - however with the focus in NRL of "home grounds" will other clubs see this as unfair?
I am also interested to know whether the PErth Bears will be a new club - or will it entail the history of North Sydney Bears and accompanying achievements of that club - for instance. - premierships won, games records holders, names of trophies, highest scorer etc. Will be interesting how that works and whether one or the other sits better with the locals.
Veni, vidi, vici

It's very reassuring that you are so concerned about the Bears identity in Perth Freddy. But rest easy pal, the Bears will play ONE home game at most per season at NSO. They will not be like the Ginats who play 4 at Canberra and are now talking about playing more 'home' games at the SCG.
The supposed upgrade isn't even equal to putting lipstick on a pig. They want to renovate the change rooms primarily to accommodate women's sport and put in a few plastic seats to replace some old wooden ones. End of.
And the Perth Bears will be a new club that will share history with the NS Bears in the same way The Swans do with South Melbourne. Easy as.
I hope this will alleviate some of your concerns Fred. And please continue to follow the resurgence of the Bears and rejoice in their resurrection. Praise the Lord.
