here is what they said about the Gabba 6 months ago & nothing has changed

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2024/ ... toria-park

" That option was criticised by some for being a waste of money, and by others for being physically impossible. The Gabba’s tight inner city footprint is an architect’s nightmare and the impact on the adjoining East Brisbane state school lent weight to arguments that other locations should be considered "

Yes, agree with the later. Many people putting many options forward it seems. Still thinking a partial tear down of the Gabba - with rest to be done later, could be a smokey. Or that other stadium location on the river put forth by the other private consortium.

Nah , neither will happen.
They're not having 2 oval venues in Brisbane , if the Gabba can't host the Olympics & it can't ... its finished
The Govt won't allow a private consortium to build something like this , they'd be in it for the money & someone would be paying.

Public private partnerships is pretty popular with a lot of infrastructure projects with governments - not a big fan myself but does allow things to get done that otherwise wouldn't. But as I said, a smokey.

And yes - there is no way theere will be two oval stadiums. Either it is a gabba rebuild in one shape or another, or a new stadium elsewhere - not both, The push is to buld the new stadium elsewhere whilst using the gabba until the new one is ready - then demolishing the Gabba for green space or something like that.

Be interesting to see the outcome - the usual issues coming out of committees is that they try and please too many people- thus you get a mishmash of ideas - but also - the government would have been very clear what they wanted (I have been watching Utopia - which I suspect is likely to close to reality lol). I'd be very surprised if a new stadium was built at Mount Gravatt - but - who knows.

There isn't one major venue in this country built by a private consortium ... wonder why fwed .. wonder why

And the govt are clear on what they want , to spend no more then 3 billion on venues for the Olympics
it limits their options but thats all QLD can afford.

Optus Stadium in Perth is a Public Private Partnership arrangement

ps://www.wa.gov.au/system/files/2020-01/new- ... ummary.pdf

"Part One provides a broad overview of the DBFM Project, including the rationale to deliver it
under a public-private partnership model, a summary of the procurement process, the value for
money outcome, the public interest considerations and the timetable for the DBFM Project."

Also found this re: Stadium Australia (ANZ Stadium) when it was built for the Sydney Olympics

https://www.treasury.nsw.gov.au/project ... -australia

From my reading, whilst Stadium Australia is now owner by the NSW State Government - it was built under a PPP arrangement and NSW brought out the private component.
1 July 2016

"The NSW Government signed an agreement to acquire 100% of the outstanding shares in Stadium Australia Holdings Pty Limited. This business now retains the lease over ANZ Stadium until 31 January 2031.

ANZ Stadium is now owned by NSW Government via SOPA."

Yours sincerely. Fwed.

the private part of these arrangements is the building company/s that constructs them
what you think public servants get on the tools to hammer nails in ?    :(/ :(/    :(/ :(/

again for our ignorant fumbler
Govts are in sole control of all major stadium projects in this country

You said:

"There isn't one major venue in this country built by a private consortium" In relation to when I mention PPPs for one of the proposals. We weren't talking about who was in control of running the stadium once built - your whole point was 6 billion was too much for the government to be paying.

I simply pointed out that there are indeed stadiums built under PPP arrangements.

As an aside- I am not sure why the name calling and abuse - and what me liking football (AFL) has to do with anything about the building of an olympic stadium? would be nice to have a discussion and to disagree without reverting to silly insults? I wouldn't expect that from my children and should not have to expect that on a chat forum get it in the Fight Club as that is what it is meant to be - but here?

We were talking about funding: Government wanting to spend 6 billion - I pointed out PPPs is part of one of the proposals.

You said PPPs were not used to fund stadiums - freeways yes but not stadiums. Your words

I pointed out that they indeed used to fund stadiums.

you keep changing your point - from funding - where I mentioned PPP - to who was running the stadium - now to who would be constructing. I am happy to have the discussion - but you have to be consistent, you have to acknowledge where you get things wrong, and you have to be an adult.

So I will leave this topic here for now and return to it when new news comes in.

for the 40th time
Private consortiums do NOT build major stadiums in Australia , never have , never will
