Brisbane Stadium - Victoria Park

Post by Beaussie »

Victoria Park recommended again.

Brisbane needs an Olympic legacy with a new stadium for the AFL and cricket and major events and concerts. Sounds like the new LNP government is listening.

Can be recommended by vested interests til the cows come home , its not in the best interests of Qlders & its not going to happen.

The idea is complete pie in the sky garbage
5 billion ( thats what it will cost by the time its done ) for a stadium for 7 days of the Olympics , & about 20 other sports uses for the entire year ongoing is complete lunacy & simply can't be justified.
The Gabba can't be used because you can't increase its size.

Pull QEII down , build a 50K seat stadium similar to Londons budget effort for a billion ... no frills , thats big enough, some transport infrastructure as well.
If Cricket & AFL want to move out there , thats fine ... theres plenty of people out there.
If they don't , thats fine too. They stay at the Gabba & eventually get some upgrades there.

Opening & Closing ceremonies , soccer & 7's Rugby at Suncorp upgraded to 65K for a billion dollars.

we have saved 2.5 billion right there.

These snoody fucks who want a showy blingy olympics in the city near the river rather then in the burbs ... can piss the eff off
Its a luxury QLD can't afford

A reported total Gabba rebuild that will soon be required anyway seems very expensive and dumb.

Victoria Park makes a lot of sense.

I think the term is Legacy - having a new state of the art stadium in Brisbane bring the city into the modern day - the concerts Brisbane miss out on is amazing - having some of the bigger artists coming here would brings in lots of revenue - imagine Taylor Swift playing in Brisbane?? The thing the stadium at VictoriaPark has is ease of access - the transport cost getting into the Gabba or Suncorp are hugh and a logistical nightmare - one of the things re: the Victoria Park stadium is you have on and off ramps to major arterials - a big factor. Also public transport is much easier - I believe a train line is pretty much right there.

It will happen - Brisbane need it anyway as Gabba is way beyond its use by date. The new premier is on record as being sceptical about the QEII stadium upgrade - which is ridiculous and doesn't even cost in infrastructure such a public transport upgrades required. Imgaine a full house of brisbanites watching their Lions run out on the ground - as a Pies supporter it would kill me being there.

but Brisbanes premier summer sport and it's penultimate winter sport need a new home and this is the answer.

Legacy ?    :(/ :(/ :(/

what sport gets a 5 billion dollar stadium for 20 uses a year fwed ?
thats not legacy, thats lunacy

want a concert ? , go to the fucking 65K seat Suncorp !!
its bigger & better & there is no better venue centrally located . & its all but built.
all the wankfest arguments don't stack up on any level ....

cricket & AFL can play at the budget stadium that will be erected for the Olympics at Mt Gravatt , or they can stay at the gabba that will eventually get some lipstick , & thats all thats required

NO

Getting in and out of Suncorp creates logistical issues. Can be done but it is a hard sell to a promoter.

Cricket is the major summer sport and AFL the second Winter sport - both are hardly minor.

Gabba is beyond lipstick - it isn't even up to current code - it is past its End Of Life - so there is going to be a new stadium regardless. So you either spend that money now using Olympic funds and Fed Gov help re: funds - or in a few years you are forking it out yourself as a government.

oh eff off      :(/ :(/
Suncorp has been hosting the biggest events in QLD for 25 years & will for the next 25

not up to code? ..BS
its fine
if they don't want to stay there ...
then they move to fucking Mt Gravatt ....
Thats the only build happening .... it'll be bigger then the Gabba , plenty of folk out that way too ..
job done for half the price

How can GABBA be passed its USED BY DATE>>

Its had its major redevelopment in 1993> and 6 developments after that..

its only 10 years older than the New Developed SUNCORP STADIUM

which gets used way more.

There’s a whole report on it Leroy - that was the whole point of the new stadium at Victoria park as they’re going to have to build a new stadium pretty soon anyway not long after Olympics. It’s currently not up to code (I wouldn’t be able to be built today as it is) mainly due to back of house - it lacks appropriate disability access, it lack such things as appropriate medical acceS - like trying to get an ambulance to an appropriate spot - personally I think it is a great ground to watch the footy at - a little old for a supposedly modern city - but good viewing I feel

re: infrastructure - it is incredibly hard to get several semi trailers in and out of there - particularly quicklly . Brisbane is overdue for a soanky new state of the art stadium - they will get one in next 20 years - so why not do it now using funding from Olympics to do so - rather than putting lipstick on a pig -we deserve this. It will bring in revenue re concerts and other events - tie up the test match, who knows even another AFL team given how well the lions and AFL are going up here.

the same garbage was rolled out about the 30 year old SFS in 2018 . its not up to code . its not up to code

was proven to be utter crap then too
the gabba is fine in its current state for another 20 years , its not going to fall down or anything.

An upgraded Suncorp will serve all the present non sporting needs of Brisbane for the next 25 years , semi trailers seem to get in just fine to caxton street
& heres the kicker
they get in even better to where the QE2 is which is where a brand new stadium for the olympics will be built on a budget.
a 50K seater like Londons , & if the gabba is mo loner good enough for cricket & minor sports in QLD like drongoball
they can move out there.

removing green space , & a school to build a stadium for 6 billion dollars when its not required

is gob smackingly stupid. [-( [-( [-( [-( [-(

QLD cannot afford bling & glitter venues for this Olympics & this was stated to the AOC & IOC when they bid for the games
the desire to have all the main events near the city by rebuilding the Gabba while in theory was a no brainer , but was proven to be futile as its capacity cannot be increased to a suitable size for the olympics , so Mt Gravatt was chosen where the commonwealth games were held in 1982, but tbf it was a poor plan with the bones of that venue upgraded. I agree , nah .. a bit underwhelming.

knock it down , put up a London Style venue there in the burbs , it cost 700 million dollars to build in the middle of London , so about a billion today in SW Brisbane.

& all the glitter events like the opening & closing ceremonies , soccer , rugby 7s can still be held in the city near the river at Suncorp

these vanity projects have no place in these tough economic times & pud pulling agendas need to be ignored. [-( [-( [-( [-( [-(

Seriously, given the Gabba is past its used by state and everyone is stating that a new stadium is required regargkess- whether now or in 15 years time - why not do it now - that’s really the only question - build a new stadium now or 15 years down the track ? Which do people think is the sensible option.

Like I said
if the gabba is not useable , which is rubbish but whatever ... then the cricket & fumblers can move out to the Olympic new venue at Mt Gravatt
ready for use at the start of season 2033
no one is building a 6 billion dollar venue at Victoria park
