NRL EXPANSION
Re: NRL EXPANSION
Similar talk in AFL for a few years - either playing ea h other once and increasing finals or the conference system - which is kind of what there is now when you look at who plays who twice

Re: NRL EXPANSION
playing each other once & increasing finals still leaves the potential for derbies being reduced to just one a year , maybe they meet again in finals , maybe they don'tFred wrote: Sat Nov 23, 2024 1:10 pmSimilar talk in AFL for a few years - either playing ea h other once and increasing finals or the conference system - which is kind of what there is now when you look at who plays who twice
fans won't like it , clubs won't like it either
The issue in the NRL is more pressing too , fumblers don't have 3 levels of competition like we do
& the number of games a player could play in a season is capped at 27 including finals
for an NRL player
its 24 club games , 4 finals , 3 origins & 3 tests
34
in a far more taxing sport physically , like it is the hardest sport on the planet.
its too much
& our game needs to act

Re: NRL EXPANSION
The NRL will do great out of this deal by WA Government (nice work Cook and PVL)
WA will provide 10 years of funding for grassroots at $12mill a Year
Redesigned Stadium 28k State of the art Facilities and Corporates
Eventually COE
Rent free at Stadium (time line unknown)
Putting RL into High Schools curriculum funded by Government in Perth Metro
WA government would help fund community, pathways, development and infrastructure projects.
Amazing DEAL ( literally on par with what AFL are getting out of Tasmania )

Yes all NRL teams do stand on there own two Feet, Unlike AFL.Fred wrote: Fri Nov 22, 2024 10:20 amI can recall a while back there was a poster stating all NRL franchises stand on their own without support? Do not get me wrong - I support the government helping to fund the team if that is indeed the case and any supports the team can get like salary cap, list sizes etc. - but there were some that were so against this - I think that poster is gone from here now anyway. I think the one thing the bears in perth do have is that there is a little bit of a grassroots take up of the game which I think is important.
Perth Team will be standing on there own two Feet.
They are getting via the government a Stadium Upgrade (just like any team in AFL and NRL have got)
They are getting centre of Excellence (just like any team in AFL and NRL have got)
Stadium Deal includes Free Rent (time line unknown)
Government is injecting Millions into Grassroots and High Schools in PERTH Curriculum (just like any team in AFL and NRL have got)
They are not getting a leg Up (this already happens to all teams in the AFL and NRL...
AFL teams like the GIANTS AND LIONS AND SUNS (get leg ups (Plyer draft picks, concessions) COLA (Extra Funding outside of other teams,
Academies built. etc etc etc

its simply a cracking deal & the offer made to the NRL by the WA govt is one they simply can't refuse
It validates PVLs decision making ... again ... when he rejected the initial bid from the private consortium & held out for this
wow
just wow

I’d say better than Tassie - well different anyway - as Tassie is already an Aussie Rules crazy state so no need for money to introduce it to kids in school etc. so I think that happening is a good thing (something the storm failed to do when they started). Whilst a mad Aussie Rules state - with a large rugby union following with ex pat South Africans a plenty - there was a small movement by one fellow to get grassroots going - not sure how that is going now - but with the government on board they will be able to get all those kids not skilled enough to play Aussie rule to maybe play nrl (just joking and prodding you asif on the last comment lol).

the Grassroots in Perth already eclipsed Melbourne In playing Numbers (even with out a team In the NRL)
Money being pumped in and exposure will only increase this 10 fold
https://nrlwa.com.au/nrl-wa-clubs/
(storm are success) just like the Swans, (perth will be an instant success )
After years and years NRL VICTORIA are finally lifting there game and numbers exploded the past 12 months.
Re: NRL EXPANSION
Storm are a success on the field - no doubting that - there is still a lot of work to be done at grassroots and getting the number of players up - as you note - Perth is bigger - which is saying something - but I do believe they refocused several years back to help grow the game rather than just thinking it would happen. Sydney and surrounds already has a large grassroots base which they have grown - with a lot of leagues and teams - NRL would love to have that level of grassroots that AFL have in Sydney.

Re: NRL EXPANSION
when you're a soft sport thats easy to play , you're going to have more players then a hard physical sport like league , grass roots is borderline irrelevant as it does not convert to popularity , soccer is the proof.Fred wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2024 10:54 amStorm are a success on the field - no doubting that - there is still a lot of work to be done at grassroots and getting the number of players up - as you note - Perth is bigger - which is saying something - but I do believe they refocused several years back to help grow the game rather than just thinking it would happen. More players then pretty much all other football codes combined in Aust
and this is the level of fan engagement
Re: NRL EXPANSION
See - I would think Aussie Rules is much more difficult to master and play - a 360 degree game, kicking, handballing, running, bouncing the ball as you run, tackling, marking - required by all players - so much more that needs to be done by a player - whereas in RL you throw it, catch it, tackle, and if so designated, kick it. I think this is why the women's game is better that AFL womens - as it is quite structured - I actually prefer watching the women for this reason - more enjoyable as ball seems to be in play more. But obviously I was bought up on Aussie Rules so know more about that game than RL - and RL is a good game too - amd skilled - don't get me wrong - but I think it would be way easier to play at junior levels - with the caveat of 10 year old islander kids looking like men and smashing players -= I think that the drawback - but the basics are ,.., well basic in RL - much more to learn in Aussie Rules.

Ive seen baboons at the zoo who look like they have more co ordination then fumblers

fumbling & bumbling around & missing goals that my mum wouldn't miss
they are jokes
every time .... every ... time they attempt to test their skills against sportsman in other sports ... they embarrass themselves because they have no discernible ability
RL players on the other hand , are all round so superior to their fumbling cousins .. it isn't funny

Re: NRL EXPANSION
that is why Rugby League will never be High Numbers it cannot, and never will be.. its to physical of a game.Fred wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2024 3:12 pmSee - I would think Aussie Rules is much more difficult to master and play - a 360 degree game, kicking, handballing, running, bouncing the ball as you run, tackling, marking - required by all players - so much more that needs to be done by a player - whereas in RL you throw it, catch it, tackle, and if so designated, kick it. i stopped playing when i was 21 for example, to physcial and to work as well. just could not happen.
so i took up Cricket in summer and Touch in the winter.
that is why Many Fans of the sport play TAG, TOUCH & OZ TAG.
it will forever be this way.
Re: NRL EXPANSION
Well of course - RL is easier to play - less to do??? Easier to plat. You kind of supporting my point their asif. Aussie Rules far more complex. Much harder to play well.azif wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2024 3:40 pmFred wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2024 3:12 pmSee - I would think Aussie Rules is much more difficult to master and play - a 360 degree game, kicking, handballing, running, bouncing the ball as you run, tackling, marking - required by all players - so much more that needs to be done by a player - whereas in RL you throw it, catch it, tackle, and if so designated, kick it. no one is supporting your ridiculous take fwed , RL is much much harder to play because of its brutal nature , its players are larger, stronger & faster , way more athletic & considerably more skilled then fumblers as has been proven over & over & over on various shows testing the 2 sets against each other
fumblers have no discernible skills of any note , they are competitive running around against other skinny little noodle armed twerps in singlets
but step outside their lane, & they're always exposed as being very very average.
