Just curious/. How does ths “feeder team” concept work - is it still a thing for storm ? Where would the feeder team come from for Perth (and png) Don’t Storm have one located in tv Sunshine Coast or something ? Not really sure how it works to be honest but was just curious.
Storm have 2 feeder teams in both state competitions
Sunshine Coast in QLD & North Sydney in NSW ,
The relationship with Norths will end if the WA Bears enter the comp , & they will look to another arrangement with another club , but it will have to be in QLD exclusively as there are no other options available to them in NSW.

Id say Norths will run all the WA Bears feeder pathways for them , from 16's to NSW cup ...the 13 players in their top 30 squad that don't play NRL on any given weekend will be based in Perth so they can train with the rest of the team & be flown to Sydney & back for state cup games , all other players based in Sydney.

Cheers.

Will this adversely impact on the Storm or not too much an issue. Do you think Storm will eventually develop their own Victorian feeder squad or this is too far off to think about? And what of PNG? Interesting.

Theres not enough quality open age competition in Vic for the Storm to develop talent there , so NSW & QLD is where they will play.
no different to the fumbleball sides from NSW & QLD playing in open age comps in Vic , the local comps aren't strong enough.

Storm won't have any problems linking up with another unaffiliated QLD cup team to develop their players.

probably going to be announced at some point , whether its Sunday or when ever , but I still have grave doubts it will happen.
Mr Magoo will go at the next election & while people tell me there is bi partisan support for the team ... I am yet to see any comment from the coalition about it

comments online against the team & this disgraceful mis use of tax payer money runs at about 9 to 1
It will open another opportunity for Dutton to use this as an election issue & campaign against it

excellent article from a leading consultancy firm re the PNG NRL team
this is the bread and butter of this business , to consult & advise including govt

in the last 24 hrs its been reported that the Australian govt will tell the PNG govt that they will need to give assurances of limiting Chinese involvement in the country at all levels

If this is true ( read it is ) then this is not soft diplomacy as some have been calling it , it is intimidation, black mail & bullying of an independent country using their love of our great sport against them. As this article says, its a terrible look ... the white Colonialists still after 50 years dictating how the fuzzy wuzzies will conduct their foreign affairs & who they will be allowed to assist their impoverished nation.

This is disgusting & typical of this clown we have as a PM & his circus of a govt. As the article asks .. why do we need to use a sport to bribe PNG , are , are we that bad at diplomacy , that they would never consider anyones help but ours. We look arrogant , superior & like we have no idea how to conduct ourselves with sensitivity around our pacific neighbours. For My sport to be complicit in this cash grab & PNG to be held hostage by our govt is shameful
& embarrassing [-X [-X [-X [-( [-( [-(

https://www.aspistrategist.org.au/austr ... 0diplomacy.

Having a team that’s funding and existence is bound by agreements and, I would say, contingent on who may or may not be in government, seems brought with danger. What is the png sign this agreement and later reneg? What if funding is pulled ?? Surely the nrl wouldn’t want a team that’s very survival is so tenuous.

Yes Fwed , good points ..
Its a potential major shit show , that many have foreseen but seemingly not our very smart chairman who seems hellbent along with the PM to see this through
This team isn't your normal expansion team by any stretch & I cannot understand why we would put our comp at risk in this way.

After a rocky few weeks of the initial WA NRL team bid being rejected by the NRL , & the WA Govt rejecting a request that a team the NRL will run in Perth be funded to the tune of 120 million dollars over 10 years by the WA Govt ,

it now looks like finally an agreement to make the WA Bears the NRL's 18th team with an entry in 2027 is about to be signed =D =D =D =D =D
Roger Cook flew to Sydney this past week to meet with Peter Vlandys & they thrashed out an historic deal.

as above states , the overall funding will be up to the tune of 500 million with that including a major upgrade to HBF park increasing its capacity from 20,500 to 27,000
Great news for WA & Rugby League.

Those old black bears are back baby

I can recall a while back there was a poster stating all NRL franchises stand on their own without support? Do not get me wrong - I support the government helping to fund the team if that is indeed the case and any supports the team can get like salary cap, list sizes etc. - but there were some that were so against this - I think that poster is gone from here now anyway. I think the one thing the bears in perth do have is that there is a little bit of a grassroots take up of the game which I think is important.

I'd say you misread what he posted because no team in any sport stands alone without support fwed , all of them get COE's built by govts & upgrades to their stadiums etc.
If Derpball can get stadiums built in NSW & QLD for their 2 oxygen thieve sides ( Grants & Thuns) as a minor 2nd rate sport ,
Then the NRL can too in WA ....

unlike the 2 above waste of space teams , the Bears will be extremely successful

what is going to be interesting is what the NRL is apparently planning to do with its schedule once the comp goes to 20 teams , which they want to happen by the end of the next media rights deal , 2032.
They want to reduce the numb of games played per season by teams to reduce fatigue & injury ,
One idea was playing everyone once , for a 19 game season , quite a reduction from the present 24. The season total of games reducing from the present 204 , to 190.
But this has consequences with broadcasters not willing to increase $ for rights when content reduces with that knocking on to the salary cap & earnings for players. Plus , derbies would go from 2 presently per year to just 1, Fans have already stated they will not be pleased with this
Broncos playing the Phins & Cowboys just once per year , Dogs playing Parra , once .. Roosters v Souths just once etc etc ?.... yea.... nah

So...
the latest idea is grouping the teams ,
5 groups of 4 teams
within your group you play the other teams twice during the year , & the other 16 teams in the other 4 groups
just once, for a total of 22 games in the season. 2 less games per team per year then now ... but .. the season total goes to 240 games , an increase in content so TV rights value goes up , plus the big derbies are retained at 2 per year.
Its a win , win , win
