I think too that with the season the AFL had - even the finals - comebacks were common from a long way back - the lions did it in a final - I know I was counting Sydney out until about 3/4 time- unlikely but actually commented that very thing to the people o was watching with.

Anyway - are there any commentators that have questioned these figures ? If so could you link as am very curious - have searched but found none.

Could the addition of 7plus also account for a large portion of gf ratings- I read this -

For the first time Seven enjoyed the massive live streaming audience which was 655,000 on 7Plus.

Someone also made this observation

You can't compare it directly with previous years as they've changed the methodology used to calculate audiences.

But it peaked at just over 6 million viewers AND had 655k viewing on 7+ which is insane. Olympics on 9Now wasn't even getting half that.

Yeah - I’m guessing that’s the case - having a portable device to watch it on would allow greater access I would think.

They COULD watch it on selected devices previously. This year BVOD was available to all.
Convenience of viewing matters.

Actually it was Oztam who said it. VOZ changed the way things were calculated -specifically removed the double counting in some areas that overlapped regional and metro. VOZ was introduced in May last year

People have to work, go to kids sporting events, and fuck knows what else they cant get done during the week.

And yes, the timing matters. Theres a reason prime time is a thing for broadcasters, and why Seven continually pushes a night grand final.
