I feel for the NRL without the Broncos being there The ratings will drop off hugely without them in the finals. Who is going to care about 7 Sydney Teams & 1 Melbourne team in the finals.

The AFL ladder at the moment has a team from every main State in the 8. Now that is a national competition.

     :(/ :(/ :(/

who would?
maybe the fans of the 7 Sydney teams you dribbling ******* ... then their fans throughout the rest of NSW might take a look too don't ya think Petey..
& Brisbanites will watch the Dolphins & Cowboys in enormous numbers in the finals .....

the wions finals Tv ratings in Brissie will be down there with the Broncos womens side
the Swines with Parramattas womens side , the midgets ..... 8-[ well the infomercials selling hemorrhoid cream will outrate them     :(/ :(/ :(/

the NRL will annihilate the giggles n tank tops during the finals on TV like they always do :\: :\: :\: :\: :\:

The Lions vs Collingwood grand final last year played in the afternoon got 450,000 Brisbane viewers.

The Broncos playing the Panthers in prime time got 700,000.

I think footy is more popular in QLD than you think azif.

No one watches TV on Saturday afternoons so the Lions getting 450,000 viewers I think is pretty good for a Rugby League city.

My whole point is when the lions are up & about playing good footy we are quite popular in Brisbane.

Speaking of NRL in Queensland, the NRL's worst nightmare is about to happen in the finals this year without the Broncos going to make it nor the Titans or the Dolphins.

With the mighty lions sitting second on the ladder now in the AFL & winning 9 games in a row & unbackable premiership favourites I cant wait to see footy on the back of the Courier Mail all September.

Oh it is going to glorious :)
broncos did not make the finals 3 years straight few years back with Lions making top 4 and did not cause a dent
abit like how Stom go In Melbourne (play well) but sit below all the other teams

PS Storm Hit 700k Plus when they last made the Grand Final.
does that mean they are more popular than you think ??

its a sugar hit

I think Storm and Lions have a very good rusted on base of supporters - not sure how big this is for the Storm but from my last visit to Melbourne was seeing them mentioned on the news which was something I hadn't seen too much off apart from finals etc. I can certainly say the Lions have or appear to have, a very good and reasonably sized rusted on base. I also think RL is getting a little more of a presence - has grown from basically zero to something at least at grassroots. For it to be played in a public school like Hallam Secondary (my old school) is quite something - in saying that - this is no where near the presence that aussie rules has in QLD or, I would say, Sydney - but there does seem to be definitely growth in. RL in Melbourne even if it is still mostly called rugby.

I totally agree with you Fred.

The Lions defiantly have a good supporter base, especially when they are winning. It is probably the only city in Australia where Rugby League & Footy (AFL) are pretty even when it comes to popularity. Obviously the the ACT & NT are pretty similar also. In saying this the Broncos are clearly the more popular team but when they are not in the finals & the lions are doing well then they (Lions) are extremely popular. The 3 peat in 2001, 2002 & 2003 really helped footy get a foothold in this Rugby League city.

In Melbourne though the Storm have been awesome for nearly 30 years & still 85-90% of people from Melbourne would not even know they exist. My whole family is from Melbourne & they don't even know what Rugby League is. They think it is like Rugby Union.

apart from the 30K ex pat mo#ngs from vicdumboh who watch them at the gabba
there is barely any support for them or the fumbling bumbling game from derpbourne in Brisbane

the Broncos women are more popular
the paddle pop wions are as relavent as the qld reds rugby or roar soccer team

no one touches the Broncos in the QLD capital & no one will for a while until the 2nd most popular sports team in Brisb the dolphins establish themselves

Look I am sorry to hurt your feelings asif.

The fact of the matter is. The lions are going to make the finals & probably finish top 2. That means they will have 2 finals at home while the broncos will be in Bali having a holiday.

This happening will be bigger than you think, especially if the lions make the GF & win it.

Its going to be the worst month of your life. At least you can watch 1 of 7 Sydney teams make the Rugby League GF & probably play the Storm. How exciting will that be.... NOT :)

Im sorry to burst the bubble you live in Petey, your bubble of delusion

but those wions of yours played in last years GF & they're further behind the 14th placed Broncos then ever before in 2024 & now behind the finals bound Dolphins
Brisbanes sporting public will have the same level of interest as they did last year for the wions during the finals , next to none
they'll be on the Phins bandwagon ... or cowboys
Real Qlders follow RL only , pretend ones who have moved there from Vicdumboh follow the giggles & misses

petey Pete,
Lions have 11 games a season for the entire City..
anyone who is hungry for AFL, expats and other teams of interest will attend them when they can..

Because they are averaging 29k odd.. does not mean they are extremely popular.
Storm are averaging 20k
and more people watched State of Origin in Melbourne than QLD watched the Lions the entire season.
does it mean Rugby League is extremely popular in VIC

i laugh when you say your family is from Melbourne and do not even know Rugby League exists
that is why US northen folk call you mexico, Stuck in a bubble..

I am sure the GF in 2020 at the Gabba was 100% Queenslanders as Melbourne was the most locked down city in the world (hence why the Gabba got the GF)

Every big sporting event gets big crowds no matter what sport you follow.

All I am saying is the Lions when they are winning they are quite popular in Brisbane. The Broncos are clearly number 1. The Broncos obviously are not going to make the finals this year so why not support the Lions...! It is possible to support both codes in this country, especially Brisbane.

100% qlders , who moved there from the south in the 1970's or their off spring , or off springs off spring
they are pretty much the only people in NSW & QLD who are interested in fumbles & tank tops
TV ratings prove this beyond doubt
