Back in those days Ratings for the NRL's 16th team were still available. That would make some difference . I think the main difference would be streaming. Many of our Metro ratings aren't getting a lot more than 300k these days . So its stands to reason that many of our regional viewers are still watching but through streaming devices also and even on PTV.

games that drew 1.5 million on their ear 10 years ago on FTA alone in the NRL now struggle to get to 1 million on FTA , PTV .. & streaming devices combined despite the population of NRL states increasing by 1.5 million in that time !!

Its not changing veiwing habits or a drop in interest or anything like that , its just BS plain & simple.

Have you considered the sample size of set top boxes?
I don't have the figures but I bet ten years ago there were considerably less. Requiring larger factoring.
