Love a good gimmick, I heard the NRL and others with vested interests are looking for other gimmicks to take the rest of the top 10 spots, we only need a couple more. Next year we could get all the top 5 with gimmick 1 gimmick 2 and gimmick 3 where they usually are in the top 4 plus the grand final, we'll also have our other gimmick in the RLWC, by goodness you better hope England choke under Wayne Bennett

Then why did the league lose 18 mil in 2015 and clubs 42 mil. (Para lost 8 mil!). If these gimmicks are so great how come you have 18 mill less to spend on grass roots and development!

I agree AFL requires alot of stamina, but physical toughness AFL is actually pretty soft.
Tackling is very weak in AFL. More like wresting with very little inpact between players.

Virtually unknown outside of Australia, "footy" as it is affectionately known to natives, is hugely popular, particularly in the Melbourne area.

Played on a huge oval field, footy is played with a large football-shaped ball, with teams scoring points by getting the ball through a set of posts set up at two opposing ends of the oval.

Skill levels are high, with players needing to bounce the ball when running, and passing is restricted to kicking or punching the ball, throwing is not allowed. Some of the catches, or "marks" as they are known, would make even the best NFL receivers gasp in shock.

Contact is almost encouraged when a catch is contested, with pass interference almost unheard of!

It would also be difficult to watch an entire match without cringing at the tackling, as the men not only play without pads but with incredibly short shorts and no sleeves, portraying the ultimate image of Australian manliness.

Having spent some time in Australia, I was ultimately tempted to try it, giving the "how hard can it be" talk before my first game. Well, damn hard, I tell you! The size of the playing area alone is enough to put on the majority.

Yes, like two bidders at an auction determined to get the prize, Packer and Murdoch inject $ millions into rl. Ultimately the boom in rl led to it's fall. Much like the Australian resources boom, rl could have done without the artificial boom.

When you look at what substantial and controlled investment has achieved for AFL,Packer and Murdoch could have achieved a lot if they hadn't been so belligerent.
