Gibbons has a fair point regarding the Gold Coast being an AFL-dominated area. Add to that the fact rugby league on the Gold Coast has already failed not once, not twice, but three times already.SMH wrote:Gibbons claimed the money the Gold Coast consortium wasted fighting for the "Dolphins" name proved it wasn't up to the task of entering the NRL.
"On stadium, tradition, name, crowds juniors, long-term funding - on all counts we have it all over them," Gibbons said.
"They are in an AFL-dominated area with a lot of immigrants from Asia and south-east Asia (where the game is not played).
"It's not a rugby league area because it has had three gos and failed miserably.
"In the end, we are saying it is not a fair comparison of the bids.
"I think it has been handled incredibly unprofessionally and I think it's disgraceful."

Nervous times ahead no doubt. Why would the fourth time prove any different from the previous three attempts? Good luck Gold Coast whatever you lot are going to be called. If history is anything to go by, you'll last a few seasons before folding.
Oh and I wonder how Wests, Balmain, Norths, Illawarra, Hunter, Adelaide and Perth fans feel about this latest development with the Gold Coast. Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't all those teams just listed either told there was no place for them in the new NRL or they HAD to merge to ensure a 14 team competition as there were too many teams in the comp. Hmmmm
