Grassroots doesn’t matter ? I would disagree. Very important to growing the game but also for players coming through and interest taken in a game. Especially if you wish to expand.

Sydney swans have several players from nsw and a few from Sydney and surrounds. Plus there are also players from Sydney and surrounds in teams other than the swans ... or GES for that matter. So that’s simply not true. I think the important thing is pathways and development from grass roots to elite which you can do in AFL given 1. The significant number of local talent to develop and the infrastructure of a decent junior and second and third level comps. I think the storms feeder team is from qld ?

Rugby League only got a team in Victoria in 1998. AFL has had a team in Sydney since the early 80s. So they have had a huge head start.

Saying that, Rugby League leaves AFL for dead with player numbers from New Zealand, England PNG etc..
