=47 or 3.6 FTA games per round. Over the season this is 83 FTA games per season in Melbourne

For Sydney the NRL have 75 FTA games plus at least 3 rep games of SOO. Therefore the difference is less than 5 FTA games.

That is NOT 1 extra FTA game per round [-X Therefore the FTA advantage is very small. The NRL has a massive STV advantage by showing every game in isolation. Thursday and Friday games show the AFL rates more on fox on average. The NRL then make up the difference because their remaining 6 games are in isolation compared to the AFL's remaining games which are almost all overlapping.
As usual you leave out the hundreds of extra FTA matches that the Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Qld have. And 3 of those weeks were Melbourne only have 3 matches is because its the bye period and the NRL only have 2. [-(

Why is that you dismiss this as if it's irrelevant?

It clearly is.

Uh oh... doesn't fit the narrative again, so it's just ignored.

Another year of banging your head into a wall nlol.

I dismiss it because when I apply this theory to $$ value & point out the NRL is more valuable ( according to the theory) suddenly the but but buts come out .
You can't have it both ways .
Loler talks about how many hrs ..3v 2 per game etc .
27 hrs per week v 18
You break that down to hrs NRL iss far more valuable product.

Over to you .
No! You just want to believe this to cure that little man syndrome you ignore the over lapping games as to games showin in isolation, more control of the fixture & advertising dollar in the city

Yes the NRL did well in their deal which was partly because they can sell rep games. Furthermore the ch9 and fox networks demand each game is isolated. The AFL demand their games are played qt crowd friendly times so although they have 27hrs to sell the different games on ch7 and fox regularly compete, they are not exclusive or isolated.

Theres your difference

there is only 3 SOO games included in the deal.

Internationals are under the RLIF

these rights are not included in the broadcast deal.. only SOO is..

The soo is worth around 1/10 of the broadcast deal from memory

Imagine if the afl and nrlol ran roughly the same fixture for each game that showed the afl and nrlol game going head to head like finals series and Thursday and some Friday nights!

As we have see time and time again the afl flogs the nrlol
That’s a reality

It’s a no wonder you lot like to imagine :(/

your regular season ratings are a bit lower during SOO but still ok. That is more than compensated for when SOO brings about 10% of the ratings for your entire year, with all 3 games in prime time against no other sport.

Based on the fact! that you have about 30% more free to air then us? Now that's a plain tangible fact that's out there for every one to see. What do you have? A hunch? some fairy tale based on you having a listening devices in the negotiating room when Ch9 and the NR done there deal, allowing you to know what they said :(/ :(/ :(/

Besides, I know for a fact that they had the room swept for bugs before the negotiations began.

And as for your crowd friendly game fairy tales :(/ , that's just crap! Or should say further crap. You have matches at all times . Many, many in crowd unfriendly timeslots - You have night games every night of the week. The problem is there isn't enough time to fit them all in - This crowd friendly line is simply BS. It was AFL that introduced Thursday night game. It had nothing to do with crowd friendly timeslots when you introduced 10 more games on a Thursday night - It was a knee jerk reaction in response to last years poor ratings.

For an AFL fan Friday Night , under light, it doesn't get any better than that - that the pinnacle of an AFL fans life , As good as it gets. As far as an NRL fan goes its hardly the ultimate, big game sure, but a long way from our peak - we have rep games, many of witch rate higher than anything else in Australian sport.

You just said Melbourne doesn't have 4 games in a round. Well [-( you just named the first 13 rounds and that had 7 in it, one having 5matches?

Those other figures you just named maybe there accurate - maybe  They certainly don't take into account though the extra FTA games played each week in Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Qld

As I've shown, our major market, Melbourne, get around 5 extra FTA games for the entire year, and these are mostly Saturday afternoon games which are by far the lowest rating FTA games.

Therefore, the heartland markets that get extra games are Adelaide and Perth. Yet most of their extra FTA games are on 7mate and some on delay. This is a small advantage yet wouldnt account for the disadvantage Perth have for evening games which start at 4.40-5.30pm.

It had nothing to do with crowd-friendly timeslots when you introduced 10 more games on a Thursday night - It was a knee jerk reaction to last years poor ratings
That's the point, there's no way for the AFL to have 27 hours of games in isolation over a weekend without playing games on Sunday night, at 6pm Friday, at 9pm Saturday, on Monday night etc. These are crowd unfriendly times. Therefore the AFL has decided to play games concurrently and take the hit on ratings and TV revenue rather than piss fans off with scheduling that is less attractive to attend
We flog you on Thursdays too
We beat you on Saturday afternoons and nights for the finals
Games in isolation favour the AFL almost every time.

As for Friday being the number 1 AFL game, this is BS. This Friday we have Melbourne v Essendon. Both sides missed the finals last year and havent won a game this year. Last Friday was Geelong v Swans which was hardly the match of the round. Most weekends you will find a match as interesting, or more so, than Friday night.

Furthermore, it is a fair comparison because both codes have similar viewing conditions: 2 clubs, 1 or 2 cities involved, no competing games, and similar time of day. Rep games are shown on a weekday, on their own, have no competing match, and are relevant to every fan. To use them as a comparison of popularity would require similar conditions from the AFL
