True, though even in the NRL State of Origin has been floated
at playing before Season Begins or in the Off Season.

It has came down to two things>> SOO will not get as big ratings if not played mid season.
and 2 internationals are played usually few weeks after G.F
being 4 nations Tests or world cups.

where as AFL could easily config season, and play before or after.

The main season is the focus, always has been, and always will be. SOO before or after the season will not be supported because players are in their off-season so they are not at peak fitness and often are undergoing surgery in preparation for the first game of the season.

SOO in ARs is dead. Too many states are represented for it to work. If we had Vic vs another similar sized state, and that was it, i could see it working. But not when the best players come from 5 states
