lol at this thread.
the game was about 2 things -
- getting sponsorship and exposure for the Port Adelaide football club brand - which by all accounts they did.
- continuing a long term Port Adelaide strategy begun in 2012
Anyone who thinks it was about the crowds and ratings in this match is an idiot and should be treated as such.
This article flies in the face of your comments above Wookie.

It appears the strategy is to have a game of the ladies mess plus mens pre-season, build junior participation and build crowds and ratings.
What I found very interesting is that the Port boss said this, "Thomas said there had been five million television viewers in China but this would increase next year with changes made."
Now I have checked the Port website and I haven't seen this figure mentioned anywhere. No one from fumblehouse has mentioned it. I would be 100% sure that if this figure was correct and verifiable fumblehouse would be trumpeting it from the rooftops.
The fact that Keith Thomas mentioned this figure when he was in China probably tells the story - no one there questioned it. If he stated it here people would rightly be asking, how do you know? Where did you get the number from? Show me the TV station stats that prove it. I call BS.
