Melbourne sporting organisers have used the hype around State of Origin to their advantage, declaring on the eve of the opener that they want to 'steal' a showpiece game every year for the next ten years.
“State of Origin rugby league is unique globally, it is state versus state, region versus region,’’ de Bohun told the Herald Sun.
“I know we used to have State of Origin in AFL but it’s not the same as this. I think in reality the NRL are in the fortunate situation where they have kind of four grand finals a year — their grand final and three State of Origin matches.’’

the issue is you claim the NRL's SOO is the greatest sporting event. Seems not even the NRL fans believe it since a medium sized stadium hasnt even sold out only hours from the game. That's a direct response to your original post, not diverting to a topic form another thread about a game in another country
