Re: Most racist sport in Aust
I think it is good to discuss racism in sport. No sporting organisation in this country I believe condones this. They haven't always handled it well but I am yet to meet or hear of anyone that says racism is good and we support it. But discussion and public forums of such allow the mutual disgust to be overtly displayed. No one here I believe supports racism or racists. Sure we can take cheap shots to further whatever weird prejudice some may have against a code but the bigger issue is that as one we all collectively agree that racists have no place in whatever sport we follow.

Re: Most racist sport in Aust
in About 120 years the AFL have had 140 players of Aboriginal decent! - That says it all

Rugby League, the dominant force in Australian sport!

the AFL has only been around since 1990. Before that there was only the VFL, WAFL and SANFLpussycat wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2017 7:16 pmin About 120 years the AFL have had 140 players of Aboriginal decent! - That says it all![]()
- 72 players are on AFL club lists, an historic record.
- Aboriginal football players make up 10% of the AFL competition, another historic record.
- 156 Aboriginal players have made their AFL/VFL debut since 1980.

Re: Most racist sport in Aust
To clear up any problems NlolRL has that was a 2008 list. Here are more up to date figures:-
Since the Victorian Football League (VFL), which is now known as the Australian Football League (AFL), was formed in 1897, there have been 178 known players of Indigenous Australian heritage that have played in a senior VFL/AFL match. A senior VFL/AFL match is an Australian rules football match between two clubs that are, or have been in the past, members of the VFL/AFL. A senior VFL/AFL match is played under the laws of Australian football, and includes regular season matches, as well as finals series matches. It does not include pre-season competition matches, interstate matches or international rules football matches.
AFL clubs employ around 1,300 employees . Out of these
•only 5 are Aboriginal,
•only one Aboriginal person is a club executive,
•none are on club boards, and
•only 2 out of the 150 coaches are Aboriginal.
This sounds like the place Mississippi burning was filmed!
Prior to 1980 there was just 27 Aboriginals who had played [allowed to play] VFL/AFL - This sport must really come from the deep South.

Re: Most racist sport in Aust
Also this:
Based on Census data at 30 June 2006, the preliminary estimate of Indigenous resident population of Australia was 517,200, broken down as follows:
New South Wales – 148,200
Queensland – 146,400
Western Australia – 77,900
Northern Territory – 66,600
Victoria – 30,800
South Australia – 26,000
Tasmania – 16,900
Australian Capital Territory – 4,000
and a small number in other Australian territories[156]
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigenous_Australians
AFL homeland is VIC, SA, WA, TAS & maybe 70% of NT. Indigenous population total estimate of 198k
NRL homeland is QLD, NSW, ACT and maybe 30% of NT. Indigenous population total estimate of 318k
Therefore it's reasonable to assume the NRL should have a higher proportion of indigenous players in their competition

Re: Most racist sport in Aust
prior to 1980 Victoria had the VFL which predominantly recruited from Victoria. Indigenous populations in Victoria are estimated at only 10% of the countries population. NSW/QLD have around 60% of the nations indigenous populationpussycat wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2017 7:53 pmTo clear up any problems NlolRL has that was a 2008 list. Here are more up to date figures:-

Yes. Maybe that's it. You fumbleballers just aren't used to having indigenous athletes around so you have continued to be putrid ignorant racists up to this day.NlolRL wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2017 8:03 pmprior to 1980 Victoria had the VFL which predominantly recruited from Victoria. RL folk have for decades celebrated our great indigenous players. I can remember back to the 60's and the magnificent Lionel Williamson, Ron Saddler, Kevin Yow Yeh and of the course the great Artie Beetson. RL people celebrated these great men.....no booing.....no repugnant name calling .....no innuendo.
Hopefully fumbleball can some day overcome its decades of stinking prejudice and celebrate their great indigenous athletes in the same way RL always has. Here's hoping.

The wafl has had many champion indigenous players over the last century, so they are hardly new to aussie rules.Terry wrote: Mon Apr 17, 2017 8:33 pmYes. Maybe that's it. Pussycat did you not see this? Remember that vfl did turn into the AFL however many would and do argue that wafl and sanfl were of equal if not better leagues. Hence the state games and later soo.

Here's 'fake news' Freddy at his best, ' many would and do argue that wafl and sanfl were of equal if not better leagues. ' Is it any wonder this bloke is called out as a base level dill??? Face the facts 'fake news' - indigenous players from these lower leagues were not welcome in the top level Melbourne fumbling comp because of raging racism.
Stand by for more 'fake news' from Freddy.

Re: Most racist sport in Aust
Whilst I'm somewhat flattered by your attention I think you are wrong here. Many south and west Aussies have argued the wafl and sanfl were of equal or better than vfl. Particularly in the early years of each comp. had many a debate with south Australians over this re the 1970s onward but no doubting that the comps could argue parity in the earlier years. A few players played many years in sanfl and did not see the need to come over to the vfl as they did not see it as a step up.

Soccer has had huge issues with crowd violence, some of it race related. I didnt vote for it but it's probable not a bad votepost_hoc wrote: Tue Apr 18, 2017 2:03 pmwhat idiot picked Football as the most racist code. how brain dead are you.
