in my Opinion.

The AFL schedule is the best for fans and ratings..

The NRL should be copying the model

That teams like the cowboys and storm / raiders etc get FTA coverage of games.

the home model based scheduling works a treat for the AFL.

There's no way the AFL's concurrent scheduling is best for cumulative ratings. Also, the NRL schedule the Broncos on FTA almost every TH or F night, all for ratings.

Multiple AFL games are shown throughout Australia on FTA
Making it even bigger if it was just shown on FOX...

It is a winner right there and than...

NSW AND QLD get up to 5 LIVE FTA GAMES WEEKLY
QLD AND NSW get to watch the 4 teams week in week out..

Who cares if 2 games are on at same time on the Saturday night into multiple states..
and a little bit of overlapping on a sunday..
the overall of the deal is Briliant and works for the AFL.

It is why it is done like this>>> the AFL are not stupid..

btw NRL do not pick games >>> the networks do.

I can't see any reason why the Warriors NZ ratings aren't included in the ratings total. They play in the NRL, they're part of the broadcast deal, their home crowds are included in every NRL tally including Wookies - why not their home ratings?

It would be like excluding all ratings in WA for WC and only counting the ratings they get outside WA - ludicrous! Warriors ratings would add about 2 mill+ to the total per year, they must be added.

If they're not we must divide the aggregate rating by 7.5 to get an average rating per game as we effectively only have 7.5 teams.

And I know Wookie says he can't get them yet we have estimated regional ratings???? I would be happy getting the best estimate available and post it. You know it makes sense!!!!

well, the AFL's lead per round is worth a lot more than an extra FTA game which is delayed into Melbourne. The AFL is more popular on TV. The NRL just has more isolated games for the year, and a longer season

It all depends what you are using the ratings for. If you are using them to argue which code is more popular in Australia then what would adding people who watch outside Australia add. If you want to argue which is more popular in Australasia or across both countries maybe ... then sure add in nz ratings to the mix. I fail to see how adding in people watching from nz would suggest rl was more popular in Australia.

You can add nz ratings but don't use those figures to argue supiority re most popular code in Australia that is all. Use who is watching in Australia to argue that.

Which is great. But I hope they don't try and use nz figures to claim most watched in Australia. I am sure they weren't needed last year.

I prefer the nrl v AFL comparison rather than code personally but it is good there are a range of figures.

It all depends what you are using the ratings for. If you are using them to argue which code is more popular in Australia then what would adding people who watch outside Australia add. 2017 AFL TV guide: How to watch every AFL game on television this season

The 2017 AFL season runs between late March and early October, with all of the matches shown on either free-to-air or pay television, often both. Here is our full AFL TV Guide on how to watch every game of season 2017.

Under the AFL’s broadcast deal, coverage is split between pay TV and free-to-air. Fox Sports is the competition’s pay TV broadcaster, while Channel Seven holds the free-to-air rights, including to every finals game.

Under the agreement, Channel Seven will show up to five matches per week live on their network, with Fox broadcasting each and every game on either a Fox Sports channel or Fox Footy.

Although games change from state to state, the following table provides a rough outline of what games are shown on each channel.


Channel Seven also has the rights to broadcast Thursday night and public holiday games. Foxtel will televise every match of the 2017 season, bar the grand final.

There are some variations from the above table from week to week. All Thursday night and Monday afternoon fixtures will be shown on free-to-air TV, causing fewer matches during the weekend to be available to the Seven network. Some weeks will also feature just the four free-to-air games, while others will see five matches shown on Seven.

In New South Wales and the ACT, all Sydney Swans and GWS Giants matches will be broadcast by Seven, with the vast majority of their coverage limited to their 7Mate and 7HD channels. The same can be said of Queensland and the Brisbane Lions and Gold Coast Suns.

All Adelaide Crows and Port Adelaide Power matches will be shown on free-to-air TV in South Australia, although, unlike in NSW, viewers will be able to watch their games on Seven’s main channel.

In Perth, West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers fans will be able to catch of their teams’ games live and on free-to-air TV, with coverage shifting between 7Mate and Channel Seven.

errr, arent these ratings well over what the NRL get? This might include more FTA games but all games bar 2 are shown concurrently, splitting the foxtel audience

We dont need an excuse for having the highest rating FTA, PayTV, final, and GF last year. Question is, what's your latest excuse? Personally, I love the one where you claim AFL games rate higher because all NRL fans switch over and watch the AFL at 10pm. That's clearly my favourite!

As far as targeting home markets go, nothing beats the free ride the broncos get on FTA prime time. That's a massive boost to your ratings given the Broncos represent 2 million people on their own. Yet you still get 4 silvers.
