Why does the AFL need a new ground when they have anew ground with a capacity of 3k yet apparently can fit 5.5 k in with plenty of room for thousands more .
& how do they fit that many over capacity .

Again spazza the AFL has a past history of putting money on to ovals, stadiums & local infrastructure! The nrlol does not! The state and federal governments are currently spending hundreds of millions on centre of excellence as well as club and stadium up grades for the nrlol in qld alone! That will go directly to the nrlol clubs

He cant ansswer now, but there are facilities in Melbourne that could host a womens NRL side with comparable crowds to an AFL Womens side in QLD/NSW already - Lakeside stadium (home of South melbourne and Nitro Athletics this year) at 7,000 would be perfect for it. (and Aami Park would be available anyway)

The issue is whether there is a proper oval shaped facility with decent spectator facilities capable of holding an AFL Womens crowd - especially a grand final - in Queensland, that isnt used by Cricket until March.

I dont know The Storm dont play a few games at Metricon, certainly would get a good crowd, either that or another rectangular ground with a 20k capacity in Dandenong. Storm have got good support in Dandenong IMO. Maybe 2 games Metricon, all low drawing games at Dandy (if the Nrl has some foresight) and the rest at AAMI.

Brisbane fans will rightly point out that Metricon is not located in Brisbane.

The Lions are trying to get a new training facility. IMO this should include a small stand and a capacity of 5,000 so they have somehwhere half decent to cover do this.

This is literally the only time ive heard a RL fan suggest another ground be built for league in Melb.

South pine wasn't built for the AFL as their new ground was it? Was the AFL ground included with the several rugby grounds there and soccer grounds etc to meet the needs of the community? Thinking the AFL want a ground with a stand and better facilities and somewhere for the men to train that is state of the art. I keep saying this yet gets ignored? Maybe bring in a uni and make it a research and development project.

For now but it doesn't suit as a training centre for the men. The Gabba is seen as no good. So making a precinct of sporting excellence sounds like a great investment with the AFL chipping in to get what they need it's a win win for the government and AFL.
