IF history is any indication Western Bulldogs midfielder Callan Ward is set to become one of the first high-profile recruits for the Greater Western Sydney Giants later this year.
Having missed out on stars including Dane Swan, Scott Pendlebury, Marc Murphy, Dustin Martin, Kieren Jack and Nic Naitanui, the Giants look set to splurge up to $4.5 million over five years for the 21-year-old hard-bodied ball magnet.
It is believed Ward is weighing up the Giants offer against a $1 million three-year deal to remain at the Bulldogs.

A hell of a lot of money being offered by GWS. Is he worth it?

$4.5 million? Not that much I would have thought. He's a good player and he would be useful to have at West Sydney. But I would have thought they would have been after someone with a higher profile - in a way like the Suns claiming Ablett Junior. Swan would have been ideal, but as the article mentioned that chance has gone. If I were West Sydney I'd concentrate on getting a name and paying top dollar for him. They only need to beat the Bulldogs offer to get Ward I think - because the Bulldogs may be about to hit a rough patch with their aging list.
